Incredibly impressive and I'm super pumped this is the direction Ford is going in. Having the partnership to produce their own batteries (with SK) is the right way to go, IMO. Should help innovation and drive down the cost.

I hope they help address the charging infrastructure and just do not rely on Charge America and I do not see Tesla sharing there system any time soon regardless of what Elon says. I realize the majority of charging is done at home but getting off the interstate can get dicey. As technology improves and efficiency goes up that will help but I see a day where charging can become an issue as more BEV hit the road and visiting popular locations could become an issue.

Tesla kind of has too. They're charging infrastructure cost them way too much. Best estimate is around $2-3K per car. Granted opening it up to "the other 11%" is incremental, it's start. It make Tesla's "on road" charging system start to pay for its self..

But hold on... didn't someone on here once say how no one would catch up to Tesla now that they've produced 1 million EV's? ?
They are not even starting to build till 2025 and 2026. That gives Tesla, and others, at least 5 years if it takes them 1 year to build and start production, which I highly doubt would happen. Realistically, you are looking closer to 10 years out before the plants are up and fully producing.

So ya, chances are they will still never catch up unless something halts Tesla’s production in the coming years. A lot can change in that amount of time.

Since Ford sells over 4 million cars per year with production capacity for more already, they could easily build electric vehicles at existing facilities.

That is if there is a market for them and they have the supplies needed to produce them of course.

I guess the news Ford hinted at wasn't 22MY can be ordered ;) If I had cash, I'd have bought Ford stock last week. Probably still a good buy once the real F150L orders start rolling in. The "grumpy" board for F150L is going to be thousands of pages long.

This is great news. This is the kind of investment that we need from both an EV perspective and for a competitive perspective against the Chinese(although this is a tough one). My guess is these factories will show production for 2026MY and be churning out shit-tons of BEVs by 2030. This also shows that the SK/LG lawsuit from back in the Spring had MUCH bigger consequences than we all thought - giving up $1.8B ain't easy unless it turns out there's bigger deals on the horizon.

This helps show that BEVs are the next step ahead for transportation. It's also going to show how strong our electrical infrastructure is(or isn't). One of the things of note with this announcement was the location was selected because electricity is cheap, which I think is a result of the TVA work 90 years ago, but I didn't research that. Infrastructure is the next key to moving this all ahead. Let's hope we can build the infrastructure out too.

Production at the plants, aside from one of the battery plants in Kentucky, is expected to begin in 2025, the company said. The second battery plant in Kentucky is expected to come online in 2026, according to Ford.

I misread that the first time, I read it as that they were not even supposed to start building the plants till 2025 and 2026.

Solid state? Or at least planning and capability to easily convert.
Where is the expertise? The 11,000 people?
HELP WANTED, the norm.
Do not mortgage the farm just yet. (even though, we have, this year, made some dough, on our Ford stock)

Solid state I think is still a bit away for mainstream, but I do think companies should be putting some heavy focus into it as its defiantly where I think things are heading.

Toyota is the only "major" company, that I'm aware of, that is doing a solid state battery. Which honestly is a bit of a weird statement given their stance on EV development...
