I know, I konw, I know... then why do they give you a mount with it? I don't know, but I think the verdict is in. Look at this:

And that's just a few.

My Grizzl-e showed up in the mail today. It's not even close. As soon as I unwrapped it and pulled it out of the box, I could tell the difference. The Ford Mobile Charger is not made for everyday use. Now, I know a Grizzl-e can handle "extreme conditions" so maybe they designed it a bit overkill, but seriously look at the size difference of the cables.

I think the verdict is in, the mobile charger is for the trunk, not the garage wall. Spread the word.

Ford charger is 32amps. That grizzly is what 40? 50 amps? More amps means a larger conductor/cable.

But yeah, I'd put in a 50 amp permanent wall charger over using the mobile charger for everyday use.

I agree. But used it for about a month now. MIne is on the way exact one avalanche edition. I couldn't wait for the mini.

Nice choice on the avalanche edition, I have the same. I’ve had mine mounted outside for over a year. It feels like it will long outlast the 8 yr battery warranty on the Mach E and will be useful for my next EVs as well. 40A max, but that can get an MME from 0-100% overnight, so I’m not sure why more amps would ever be necessary for home use.

Emmm...I've been using my portable charger mounted with the supplied bracket for a year now and have had zero issues. It's on it's own 48A circuit.

Always gets me to 85% by around midnight if I start at 7:00 PM.

I may swap it out for the Pro charger that comes with the Lightning when I get that though.

I used the Ford Mobile Charger for the first six or seven months with no problems. But I decided I should have the Mobile Charger in the car so I bought a Grizzl-E Avalanche and it has also been working flawlessly. The cord size (diameter) is different as shown in a previous post so that might contribute to the problem people are having. The SEMA 14-50 plug, GFCI circuit breaker (and wiring) is 50 amps and the Grizzl-E is factory set to 40 amps.

Make sure the Grizzl E is mounted perfectly Level, or else the OCD switch will kick in. Lol

This is a picture of the included mount.

I'm also using Grizzl-e, but before that I was using the Ford mobile charger without any problems. Some people have problems with it, but it's just those particular units, it doesn't mean the charger was not designed for daily use.
Grizzl-e does have very thick cable, which isn't necessary for 40A current. You can find other chargers (including Tesla), which have a much thinner cable.

These are EVSE (EV supply equipment). The charger is in the actual car for 120/240v charging.

FWIW: I have been using the included Chrysler EVSE cable from the Plug-In Pacifica minvan daily for 4.5 years without issues. This is indoors as I would not trust to keep the EVSE outside exposed to the elements.

My 2 cents: If you have the wiring and circuit breaker done right and don't expose the Ford EVSE to the elements, it should be fine to use daily but a dedicated EVSE has more bells and whistles.

Will any EVSE last if kept outside in the elements? Even the Grizzle says it is water “resistant” not water proof. Does the J1772 spec say anything about waterproofing?

The title of this posting is misleading. It is not based on actual data; it is just an opinion. As always, use case is the most important factor here. I drive less than 20 miles per day 95% of the time and my garage's 120 outlet is more than adequate to charge on a frequent basis (either nightly, or every 2-3 days). I see no need to spend $2,000- $3,000 (here in Mass) to install a 240 outlet and charger in my garage. I have a local fast charger I can use in the rare circumstance I would need it. And, as pointed out by others, of course there may have been issues with some equipment, or even electrical wiring/age issues.....but we'll see how i think about this in a year....

I recently upgraded from a Siemens VersaCharge (~2012/13?) to a Grizzl-E Duo and have to admit I prefer the larger gauge cords. Although more easy to trip over, they are (or at least appear) much less likely to be damaged by falling objects, or being trampled on, etc.

As for bells and whistles, I do not know about that. The Duo only has a single status LED for both charging circuits, and not much else...unless you count the rubber connector boots to keep water out of the plugs. Does having an extremely quiet contactor count? The VersaCharge made a loud "thunk" when the contactor closed on it. The Duo has a barely audible "click".
