That's pretty impressive considering it has wider/stickier tires. And I think it weighs slightly more, too.

I would have been more tempted by the GT if I knew the range was going to be so close.

I’m quite impressed too. That’s only 10 miles less than the Premium awd. Maybe it’s the lighter forged wheels on the Performance thats what’s helping so much?

Or it could be that Ford went very conservative on the range numbers for the launch vehicles and will bump up the numbers after the GT's launch. In pretty much every real world range test, every Mach-E variant beats its EPA number.

Combined with the data that Ford is getting from all the miles being driven currently and improvements that they can make based on that data, I would imagine the numbers for all of the Mach-Es will be revised higher at some point in the future.

It seems like Ford wants its range numbers to be real and not vapor numbers like Tesla, but it would be surprising to not use the number for marketing purposes if they believe the vehicles can actually deliver better range. They get the free marketing bump of the initial press release and the benefit of comparisons against other EVs for future shoppers.

Not sure how close to real life the EPA’s driving test is, but I can tell you they didn’t drive the GTPE the way I’m gonna drive mine. I’ll be happy with 180+ miles per charge. Lol.

Pretty much this. My wife may get decent mileage out of it during the week but I'm gonna need extra tires for my weekend endeavors. "Drive it like you stole it" comes to mind.

Could some of the range increase come from the glass roof not being standard on these cars? Does it save enough weight to bump the range a bit?

Having not yet ordered my planned Premium ER AWD, I'm looking anew at the GT. I don't want the sports seats or summer tires or need the enhanced power of the GT Performance Edition; I don't really need the GT either, but given the same range (and the option to delete the panoramic roof, which I like but seems to have some potential downsides), I wouldn't mind the additional performance if I can swallow the additional cost.

What I really wonder about is ride quality. The Premium's ride already has its detractors, and the GT's standard tires have a sidewall that is (checking the Internet) 10% smaller than that of the Premium's. Absent the adaptive dampers in the GT Performance Edition, I'm thinking the GT's ride will be that much stiffer and therefore less comfortable on typical suburban streets.

Any opinions? {Jonathan}

I wonder how much, if any, of the GT's 10 mile range advantage compared to the Performance Edition is due to the all season tires vs summer tires. I'm planning to switch my GT PE to all season tires.

If you've never driven a performance-oriented car, you need to do so. Some people love the stiffened ride, many hate it.

I had a 2011 GT500. It was stiff as hell. It was stiffened even further with aftermarket mods. My wife couldn't stand it. I absolutely loved it. The "connected-to-the-road" feeling was amazing.

My dad had a C6 corvette that was nice but more "floaty" than my GT500. He now has a C8 corvette with the magneride. Having driven that, I was absolutely going for the GTPE over the GT for that upgrade alone.

I doubt it. Weight doesn't have a big impact on EVs since the extra energy required to accelerate is mostly recovered with regen and the weight increase from the glass roof is probably only a 1-2% increase in overall weight.

Most of your losses are going to be aero, tire rolling resistance (which a stiffer sidewall could help with), rotating losses from the gears, bearings, etc in the gearboxes, and then accessory loads such hvac, battery temperature conditioning, power for sync, on-board computers, etc. There are also power electronic losses for driving the motor, but they are probably similar for the GT. The GT is a little lower and has front wheel air curtains which should help with aero, which maybe helps offset the wider tires a little. The other big difference is the front motor and gearbox, which I would have thought would have had more rotating losses on the GT but maybe not do to it using a thinner oil.

I have the same question. My opinion is we'll have more information in 2 or 3 months, when GT reviews and deliveries pick up. I might change my mind then.
