Update: I received the blue cloud license plates in the mail. Arizona is still sending them out for alternative fuel vehicles. When the dealer submits the registration apparently AZDOT recognizes to send the correct plates. Hooray!

Help Arizona friends!

I was really looking forward to getting one of those Blue Cloud license plates to allow for HOV access... It appears the program has been cancelled? All of the news stories I saw state it was just for hybrids, but I can't find anything on any AZDOT website that allows for pure electric vehicles to sign up for the plate.

Any ideas or help for a newbie? Thanks!

Read the stories carefully. This is for PHEV cars. The full EVs are still eligible for carpool tag.

yeah. I just found it odd that there’s no real info in the AZDOT website about the other AFV ones. Picked up the car today and dealership said that the registration would automatically generate a Blue Cloud plate, so we will see what happens in a few weeks.

As a quick update to all of my Arizona friends out there. The dealership process sends in the registration and AZDOT picks it up as an alternative fuel vehicle. Blue cloud license plates arrived about 3 weeks later! I didn’t have to do a thing (except buy the car ?) Hooray!! ??

hope this helps someone searching google with the same questions.

Word of caution to everyone: MAKE SURE THE DEALER PROPERLY REGISTERS YOUR CAR. Mine didn't, and yesterday I received a regular plate . Now I have the excruciating task of getting ADOT to re-issue an alternative fuel (cloud) plate with the burden of proving my vehicle is, in fact, an EV
on me.

Make the dealer fix it.
More disturbingly, what did the dealer charge you for registration fees? Should have been about $78 or so....

Which dealer did you use?

When I was getting my paperwork done by them, they attempted to charge me full VLT of about $1,000. If you're unprepared or inattentive, you'll get skinned.

Why is it that when a dealer makes a mistake, it's never in your favor?

The funny part is that particular mistake wouldn't even be in their favor. Unless they are pulling something incredibly shady. Which we all know a car dealer would never do. ? ?

It could be in their favor. Maybe the customer's money goes to the dealer and the dealer separately pays the state the correct, smaller amount.

Chapman charged me some odd number like $101.85 or something like that in state registration fees. But neither the salesperson nor the finance person could itemize it out for me. They both stated they didn't have a clue what was inside that fee.

That would be the incredibly shady part. Probably criminal actually. Though I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV. I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. ? ?
