Still getting used to how DRAMATICALLY wide the range is on BEV mileage. So far we've seen anything from 2.1 to 4.1 miles/kWh. Most have been toward the lower end, but it is Winter. Let's hope by Summer we're seeing mostly 3's (and even a few 4's) being reported.
Yup: At the Bolt's worst in winter I'd get ~1.8 and its best in summer it could easily get to 4.5 (granted not 4.5 on the highway).

It would be interesting to know if this guy preconditioned the cabin, while on charge, before leaving home, and if he kept climate control on while stopped for the 20 kWh fill up. Keeping the cabin at 72F while charging would certainly help his range.
Haha, that’s roll down your windows weather!

Based on the palm trees, architecture, and barren mountains in the background- it looks like Southern CA. No need to precondition. For example, if it's San Bernardino (just a guess) it was 72* this afternoon.

I don't know if the timer keeps going when you're parked, but he drove 266 miles in 5.5 hours, which works out to 48MPH. If the timer was still going when he was charging, etc then obviously 48MPH isn't correct

I'll be making a 184ish mile round trip drive tomorrow in SoCal with a bit of mountainous terrain. We'll see how well it does, taking my AWD extended range premium. I likely won't use any climate control, just maybe some heated steering/seats in the morning. It will be 95% freeway driving and I'll likely avg 80 mph in the morning because I don't know how to go slower unless I'm in traffic, which will likely happen on the return trip home.

We drove about 2.5 hours to get to Santa Barbara, spent about 3 hours eating lunch and walking around, then drove back home (around 3 hours because of some traffic). So it seems that the timer only runs when the car is on. What I meant about "90% at 65mph" was that I set the cruise control on 65 and "almost" never went over 65. We did do some surface streets and also hit some traffic in LA. I kept an eye on the the trip display though most of the trip and it was between 3.9 & 4.1 the whole trip.

I'm pretty happy about my trip. Averaged 3.1 mpkw for 195 miles about 95% mountainous terrain freeway driving. I set the cruise at 81mph in the morning about 50-55 degrees out and heated seats/steering wheel on most of the way. In the evening I used no heat or a/c and had cruise set at 76mph but hit a fair share of traffic so was well under 76mph for probably 25% of the drive home. Temp was 60-65 heading home. Started at 100% charge and ended with 22% left.

Looked at each trip, avg speed was 70 in the morning and 60 in the evening but I accelerate pretty aggressively also.

I'd be perfectly happy with 3.5 mi/kwh at 65 MPH in 75 degree weather.
Should be very doable. You only need about 15 kW at the wheels to maintain 75 MPH on a flat.

I know this is probably near ideal perfect conditions in California, but @ocdxfv got 4.1 miles per KWH!

I ordered a *standard range RW* also. Ideal for So Cal. Build week April 12.

Extended range battery weighs more; reduces efficiency. 95% of the time, extended range battery would be more of an albatross than a blessing. Same for AWD. This car is too low to use off road and, in the absence of snow and ice and only rare rain, AWD also just lowers efficiency, while adding no benefit.

I have a question. On my 2016 Chevy Volt, cruise control gives me much better efficiency/longer range than what I can get with even a careful light touch on the foot pedal. On your Santa Ana to Santa Barbara round trip (I've done the Huntington Beach to Santa Barbara version of this many times), what percent of time, if any, did you have cruise control (co-pilot 360) engaged?

I did a short test today in Colorado in my FE. Ran up the interstate at 75 MPH, turned around and back. 25 miles total. A little of it at 65 but most at 75. 40F outside. Cabin temp set at 71F and heated seats on low. Car was already warmed up before getting on the interstate and restting the trip meter. Got 2.5 miles/kWh on that interstate-only stretch.

Drove it later in the day (43F outside, same cabin settings) to add some 55 MPH + some city driving to it. 64 miles total, roughly half at 75 MPH. Got 2.8 miles/kWh.

Fairly happy with those numbers for 40-43F temps outside, although it was a "nice" chilly day rather than a crappy one (sunny, dry, no wind).

I know it's a short trip, but I got 3.9 on a 10.7 mile trip today with hills and ambient temperate at 46 degrees. That's even with a few unbridled accelerations ;).

My first 36 years of living in SoCal, I drove like everyone else. 9 MPH (or more) over speed limit. Rapid accelerations. Constant lane changes to find open road ahead. But 5 yrs ago, I got a rated 53 mile electric range Chevy Volt, with a back up 350 mile range gasoline hybrid engine. And a data screen that told me all about real time electric and/or gas consumption.

This changed my driving habits (for the better) more than the sum total of thousands of dollars worth of traffic fines and scores of hours in traffic schools.

For me, my ‘’mileage” ratings (miles per KWH AND MPGe) became video game obsessions. I am continually pursuing “personal bests.” Best “numbers” when not exceeding speed limits. Best “numbers” when driving (in the “slow” lanes) at speed limit minus 5, etc.

What I’ve found is that my trips take a relative trivial amount longer, in the general scheme of things, but I arrive at my destinations much more relaxed and fresh. And I have feelings of (probably false) virtue in reducing my motor vehicle carbon footprint to improved levels.

When I get the MME (scheduled for April), I plan on driving “unbridled” on only rare occasions, for a bit of fun. But, on the whole, my total driving will improve, as the MME is replacing a pure ICE vehicle (a Mazda), which I have continued to drive like a proper Californian. I may be one of a relative handful of humans to replace a Mazda with a Mustang and end up driving more slowly and carefully. :)

yeah... one thing I think I'm going to miss in the Mach-E as it ships right now is the always-live coach view on the dash (vs. when you go to the right place)... that "gamification" of the driving has really helped me moderate my driving.

I suspect 1PD will help me moderate in a different way.

I finally saw the brake coach on the demo I am driving around. It is in the far left corner of the driver display screen and very small when it comes up, and quick to disappear. Not at all like in the Fusion Energi. Hoping there will be some different driver customizable settings for that or the big display for stuff like this.
