When i spoke with my Ford dealer they told me to use chargePoint as it is cheaper by a LOT and functions just as well. The other advantage with ChargePoint is that you can hook up your home charger to your account so that you can keep track of all of your Chargepoint purchases if you charge away form home.
Clipper Creek is well known in this field, carries an Energy Star rating , safety certified from an NRTL-National Recognized Testing Laboratory both ETL and UL, fully sealed NEMA 4 enclosures, three year warranty.

Another advantage of ChargePoint for me is that it's eligible for my local utility's rebate program, but the Ford station isn't.

The fact that the Ford Station is hardwired pretty much automatically disqualified it, I want to be able to plug and play.

If I go for a better EVSE than the Ford mobile one, it'll be ChargePoint.

FOrd has issued a Stop Sell order on that unit and has told all dealers to get the units back and issue refunds. Apparently it develops an unrecovrable fault and turns red. They have no solution for this. I returned it and purchased the chargepoint it is a lot easier to install and will charge the car in ten hours instead of 8 which I think it is good enough.
Actually, if ChargePoint is hard-wired, it will charge at the same rate as Ford's. But ChargePoint can be installed yo plug into Nema 14-50 socket, which gives you flexibility.

So I just got my rebate check from my local utility in Northern California. Not PG&E. They gave me $300 for the car and $500 for the Ford Connect Charge station. So you want to check with your local provider first. Hope this helps.

Technically, you can do the same thing with the Ford Connected Charge Station. It has DIP switches that can set the output at 40A. You would need to supply your own cord and plug.

I did. ChargePoint and Enel X are the only eligible stations.

But regardless, until the Ford station is plug-in rather than hardwired, I remain unable to buy one.

Technically, ChargePoint already comes with a plug and no need to screw around with DIP switches. Also current the current model of ChargePoint had been around for about a year with no issues, while Ford's is having issues out of the gate.

Agree 100%.
My intention is not to defend or promote the Ford version, only to provide some info.

I should add that I think it was a mistake for Ford to even bring out their Charger. Tesla is the only maker that is selling their own charger. But Tesla has an excuse, since they insist in a proprietary connector. Ford was in no-win situation with it. All they could have accomplished with it to make customers unhappy. Which they did. First with the delayed shipping and now with technical issues.

And I made the mistake of buying one. It's currently bolted to the wall in my garage, happily sporting a cool blue glow waiting for the arrival of my MME or instructions on returning it to the dealer, whichever comes first....:(

Mine is sitting in its box, awaiting further instructions from Ford. I had my electrician put in a 240V outlet when he did the initial wiring as a contingency. My backup plan will be to return this to Ford for a refund and get a ChargePoint Flex.

The charger has both a hardware limit and can be further software limited.

There are DIP switches inside that you configure to set the max charging amperage allowed. Your choices are 48, 40, 32, 24, 20, and 16 amp charge rates.

Once you set the hard limit... you can further limit it via the app. The physical switches are there to hopefully avoid the situation where ... your 16 year old wants the car to charge faster and notices that they can just change the setting in software.

A RWD car gets a little bit better range (~300 miles with the ER battery pack) than an AWD car (~270 miles with the ER battery pack) So that's about a 10% reduction for having a 2nd motor. At 48 amps I think Ford says you'll get about 28 miles of range added per hour. I'd expect that if you have AWD it's probably more like 25 miles of range per hour.

At 30 amps it should be more like 20 miles of range added per hour ... or about 18 miles of range if you have AWD.

And of course range is based on weather. If you live in a cold state then winter range wont be equal to summer range.
I do not have a 60 AMP circuit available in my main panel. If I connect the charger to a 50 AMP breaker in my home MAIN BREAKER PANEL and set the charger internal switch to 40 AMPS will it work?

Yes ... the charger can use up to 80% of the rating of the Circuit Breaker (CB). A 40 amp continuous charger load on a 50 amp CB is fine.

The charger should be the only device on that breaker (don't share it with other things such as an electric range, dryer, etc.)
