Good Evening All,

I have come across a bad, and very annoying, bug with Bluetooth and at least iOS in the Mach E.
If you are in a call when you get in the car and start the car, you can continue with your conversation, but not over Carplay, but over the Bluetooth connection to the Mach E. When you end the call, you can no longer use Carplay OR the Bluetooth connection to the Sync system. It will remain this way until you turn the car off. I tried turning off Bluetooth on my iPhone, tried disconnecting my iPhone from the Mach E via on Sync System, rebooting the phone and everything else I could think of. Only turning the car off exiting the car locking the door and then re-entering the car would resolve the issue. Or, the more radical fix, perform a reset on the Sync system and rebuild profiles, PaaK and just about everything else. I did that the first time I came across this when nothing else worked.

This has happened me me twice now.

I sure do hope Ford comes out for a fix for this soon. It is truly a pain in the ass.

Oh well, we are on the bleeding edge.

Are you on your phone via another Bluetooth connection, such as AirPods, before entering the car? Or are you just using the phone’s mic and speaker?

Just the phone and speaker when I enter the car and start it.

Hope you are reporting this to Ford- first time hearing about such an issue (atleast for me)

You should be able to report this from the Sync 4A screen.

I did call the Ford Guide. You could tell he was reading from a script, and an old one from Sync 3 at that. Totally clueless. Told me to take it to the dealership. But, it’s obviously a code issue so little the dealership could do. I’ll tweet one of the Ford people tomorrow to see if they can point me to someone that can make things happen.

This isn't a bug with carplay. The same behavior happens with Android Auto as well.

In fact, if you notice if you have android auto or carplay going, and you go to just the bluetooth phone part of the sync screen, it will tell you that android auto is connected and you need to open android auto to make a phone call or send a text message.

They don't seem to both work at the same time. If you're using one, you can't use the other. I've also noticed, that if the wireless android auto loses its connection, it is a pain to get it re-connected without just restarting the car.

I don't have an Android phone so that's why I said at least iOS. And I totally agree with you on everything else you said.

Really bad bug if you rely on PaaK (I won't go anywhere without my key fob now)

Also noticing that Paak takes time once you enter the car. If you just get in and try to start it, you will get a "Key not detected" error on the driver screen.

So I get that key not detected also, But not until Android Auto connects. As soon as android auto connects it kills the Bluetooth PAAK connection as well.

I finally made my PAAK work 100% reliably by telling my phone to never force the FordPass app to sleep. So it works flawlessly now, However, it kills my phone battery like crazy. Like have to charge it several times a day bad. And I have a brand new Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra with like a 5000mah battery.

I don't know if this is a phone limitation or a sync limitation, but one of them isn't able to have a wifi connection AND a bluetooth connection at the same time. I would have thought AA or CP using wifi would have gotten around any issues but apparently not.

And just an FYI on this problem, when it happens, you can't disconnect CarPlay on the phone that is supposedly active, and you can't disconnect bluetooth, either. Sync waits for a response from the phone and if doesn't get one, it fails. When you "forget this device" in bluetooth settings on your phone (iOS), there's no joy in that either. Sync still thinks it's connected.

New Android Auto update downloaded last night. I have to go out soon, so I'll try it. It should be the stable release of the sideloaded app I downloaded last week.

Wonder what would happen if you plugged the phone into the USB with a cable rather than using wireless CarPlay?
