sales tax is based on the x-plan price, which includes destination (which is taxable).

rebate and options cash are applied as separate line items.
Pretty close @eltonlin to what I did today. Took my dealer 2 days and several calls to Ford and attempts to get the numbers close to what @macchiaz-o spreadsheet predicted. Couple of confirmations for California. Sales tax is calculated on XPlan price (including delivery) + optional accessories. Rebates of $2500 + $1500 + 100 are subtracted after sales tax is calculated (in California). Residual, of course, is based on annual mileage, and the 36% was accurate from the spreadsheet for the Options 48. Interesting quirk - a $85 document processing charge was added to the taxable XPlan price, and therefore taxed. Another $610.75 was added after tax for license, registration, tires. Spreadsheet predicted $16,814 residual, but on my contract the residual is $18,554, and is based on 36% of the XPlan plus sales tax. The $4100 rebates were included in the down payment. I paid the sales tax as the down. Total of $7800 down, but only wrote check for about $3200, the rest was rebates and $500 deposit from 15 months ago. 47 Pmts of $677 vs $685 predicted by corrected spreadsheet.

None of the rest of what you said (other than what I quoted) is a surprise to me ... I mean, I didn't know the details for California, but it's not surprising that there are differences state to state.

The statement I quoted is surprising, though. I thought for sure that the residual would be based on the manufacturer's invoice total MSRP before any discounts, plus some residualizable dealer installed-equipment such as maybe floor mats or different wheels. Go figure! ?‍♂

I agree, they may have made yet another in a series of misunderstandings, but it benefitted me and I did not discover it until I wrote my post. Can't change it now... Ford Credit may catch the mistake, though. All is not said and done quite yet.

It doesn't make sense. The Options incentive and the Clean Fuel Incentive are totally separate. I'd vote for incompetence rather than malevolence. The Options incentive comes from Ford so I wouldn't think this would matter for the dealer. The dealer might have to pay something for participating in the Clean Fuel program but it might be a fixed cost and isn't likely a large amount in any case.

I went with Options at Encinitas Ford and no one there seemed to have any issues with either incentive. But you should be able to work this out with your dealer.
Thanks Don, I gave them a call and spoke to Frank, he confirmed everything that has been said in the forum and even said the x-plan was worth getting, the guy at my local dealership told me not to bother!!! So I am going to cancel my order with my local ford and reorder a new one through Encinitas. I am also going to switch from the SR to an ER. Thanks for all your help. I might have to wait a little longer but it will be worth it to work with a dealership who knows what is going on and for the longer range. Also, after seeing Space white in person I am switching to that color.

Yes they are making it far harder than it needs to be, and generally not doing anything for customer satisfaction in the process.
Absolutely agree. They're doing online ordering and Options and whatnot to try to approximate the Tesla buying experience, but the dealers are still doing what dealers do. Honestly it would've been better if they had just released this model just like every other car they sell instead of the weird one-off nature of how this very low volume brand new car is being presented through dealerships

hmm, not sure if i just got lucky... but for my ford options the dealer had originally used 3.75%. i was their 1st mach-e and ford options customer so once they “figured it out,” in terms if options, california clean power, etc, i actually didn’t notice the apr being wrong... it seemed low enough...

but i got a letter from ford credit a couple weeks later to correct the apr to 2.25%.

so in this case, i think it was an unintentional error, and whether it was the dealer or ford, it was corrected to my advantage.

ps. apple carplay is an option in the volvo xc40 ev (even though the underlying system is android based)

Yupper they sure do! Dealers have the "discretion" to mark up the 2.25% Ford advertises, but are under no obligation to be straightforward with you that they're doing it. Think of how many people will go to buy a car that don't know half of what we all do on here. This is why some people are so turned off by having to go through dealers...for all of Tesla's flaws, buying direct at a set price definitely has its advantages.

Side note soapbox: My neighbors just bought a Volvo XC40 Recharge electric and got raked over the coals by their Volvo dealer with ADM, high interest rate, dealer not applying the $1500 California Clean Fuel Reward, etc and didn't even know it until I started asking them questions about the buying process...they didn't even know that vehicle doesn't have Apple CarPlay cuz they're not very tech savvy, and when it wouldn't work when they test drove it, the sales guy told them they could "hook it up when they get home" (they cannot because it doesn't exist on that car). I almost feel bad for making them realize they got deceived and hosed. I know not all dealers are bad (mine was fantastic and did everything right) and it's complicated to try to reform the dealer system in the US, but some dealers are shady POS's and Manufacturers should really make better efforts to try to ensure a better customer experience so it doesn't drive them away from the brand. Good thing at least with Ford there are plenty of dealers to choose from...choose wisely!

I mostly agree on points, but I believe that at some point Ford had to do it this way. The current auto sales model is flawed and out dated. This exercise by Ford on a relatively low volume product vehicle was the perfect opportunity to capture the more savvy buyer who might have purchased a Tesla. It had to be done. The real break down was in corporate support. Not all Ford dealers are BEV resellers. A dedicated national team to support BEV, (which I don’t believe Ford has) , should have been in place.

The problem is Ford doesn't have the control over their dealers they need. They need McDonald's level franchise agreements, but, that is beyond the scope of anyone here :)

Definitely agree they need a dedicated support team for this. It doesn't have to be a ton of people, and can just be a subset of their normal support teams--just some folks who have gotten intensive training on the Mach E, and setup the phone trees and email rules to target those specific agents when someone calls the special BEV team

CarPlay is not yet availabile on the vehicle, but will be some day ?. Volvo has yet to push an update enabling it, and doesn't have an exact timeline yet for doing so...as of 2 days ago they said "sometime later 2021"

Just some insight on Ford Options they are offering me in Massachusetts:
* Here we need to pay for the taxes on the full price of the car (we are called Taxachusetts for a reason).
* They believe gap insurance is required ($499), but I'm doing almost 30% down and I don't think I will ever be up-side-down on the contract. They will confirm with Ford (I'm their first Ford Options).
* Offering the maintenance plan for $499
* Offering tire and wheel protection for $599
Taxes on the full cash sales price is normal. Options a retail installment contract.

GAP insurance is completely optional. GAP insurance is NOT required to obtain Ford Credit financing.

So let me get this straight.........it is still the Wild West when you order the car, want to finance with Option, go to the dealer and he has a higher finance rate for you? We know it to be 2.25%, if the dealer and you cannot come to terms, are you permitted to walk away from the deal?

The 2.25% Ford Options rate is only for Tier 0/1 approvals, lower Tiers will have higher rates. You can always walk away from the deal (the dealer will sell the car to someone else). Your deposit may or may not be refundable depending on the dealer's policy.

That is interesting as their own web site allows you to use the financing calculator and whenever you select the Options choice it automatically provides the $2500 incentive.
That is exactly what I asked. I cancelled my order and switched to the Encinitas Ford.

You might choose to be more persistent. The fact they haven't heard about it isn't a big deal. It's new and different, they have a lot to do, and they may not be the smartest bulbs in the pack. However, Options will show up when they pick the financing package -- it's just in the software. That does not mean they will offer the 2.25% APR rate. They can try to game this to make extra. You would need to confirm the rate.

I'd also complain to Ford. Dealers are supposed to know about Ford financing. They might help you move your order.
Well I also switched to the ER battery. I was very patient with them and did explain that I knew this was all new so all is good. Call Ford and figure it out. I even messaged them where to find the correct information in their system based on someone’s comment in this forum and told them to call the Encinitas Ford as they have sold many of them. But then they never responded to me. On top of that they said they called Ford, and Ford told them the options plan was a lease and that you cannot combine the Ford and state incentives which they lied about because I spoke to someone from Ford. So once I knew they lied to me, I was out. Take all the time you need but don’t lie. It worked out because now I’m getting more range.
