It also depends on where you live. It's great with all radar bands, but if police in your area only use Laser, then you're cooked. If your detector yells "Laser Alert!", that means there's no getting out of that one.
and now you know why in the other thread about radar detectors I said what I did about their usefulness in 2021 ?

The manual wasn't too clear on which module it is, I'm not about to go playing around with circuits in an electric car.

But this is what I found:
  • Fuse #33 - 20Amp - Advanced driver assistance system. (Maybe? There is a camera for self driving in there I think)
  • Fuse #85 - 5Amp - Rain sensor. (Yes)

One or both of those are definitely contained in that housing.
5A sounds about right for the wire size. Need to be careful adding load to that. Some radar detectors can pull a fair bit on startup and when they signal.

Given that several ADAS sensors are up there, I’d be hesitant about going in there at all, or introducing any spurious loads or signals up there. They must make a 12V cigarette lighter plug for things like radar detectors and dashboard cameras.
Of course they do. But the closest 12v plug is in the armrest storage. Plus I like the clean look of things. I would bet my life that there won’t be a problem with tapping in the Mach-E.

Well like I said, depends on where you live. 99% of the time, here in Michigan, they’re using radar, not laser. Saved my ass a crap ton of times.

According to Escort for my model:
“Power consumption is typically less then 1A and never surpasses 2A.”

I would be flabbergasted if I hit 80% of the load for that gauge wire.

Does the radar detector work through the metallic windshield? Since transponders have a hard time working through it, I wonder if the windshield will also block some signals.

Did you find the fuse size for that circuit?
F9 it is 5A.

Note that this power turns off immediately when you turn the car off and open the door. If you want power that stays on the accessory delay circuit tap into the lighting circuit in the overhead console. Depending on settings that will stay on for ~10 minutes after you leave the car.

Here's the car side of the connector that goes to the mirror.

Does the iRR coating on the front windshield affect a radar detector?

I did notice that, though, I have no reason for it to be on when the vehicle turns off. I would love to know where you found this electrical schematic.

Thanks for testing this out and the instructions!

If I go with a dash cam, I'll probably get one with an ODB wiring harness, unless there's some major reason not to do this.

The one Ford sells with the Mach-E listed uses the ODB port for power it seems.

I've been in a few combat missions and I wouldn't have the nerve to disassemble and tap wires in this car! You my friend have some serious courage! Awesome write up! Now show me how to add ambient lighting to the back seat area!?

I have not noticed any issues.

It makes more sense for a dash cam. I personally don't care with an RD if it turns off right away but with a dash cam it is nice to have it run for 10 minutes or so after the car is off. It will also turn back on if you hit the lock/unlock button on the fob for 10 minutes.

I have a source. If you need anything just PM me. I'm happy to look it up for you.

Good point on the dash cams. And good to know about your source!
