Without question, one of the biggest advantages Tesla has over all other EV makers is its vast Supercharger network, which provides easy and convenient charging access across many locations. But Ford Mustang Mach-E owners can look forward to enjoying some of the same benefits when charging at an Electrify America station, thanks to its newly implemented Plug&Charge feature.

Essentially, Plug&Charge enables an electric vehicle to “talk” to the charger it’s connected to and handle authentication and billing. However, this feature must be enabled both at the charger and in the vehicle to work properly. Thankfully, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E will support Plug&Charge out of the box, along with other vehicles including the Porsche Taycan and Lucid Air.

Plug&Charge can be set up ahead of time by owners via a brief online registration. After that, drivers can automatically pay for charging by simply plugging in their EV. The charger communicates with the vehicle to identify, authenticate, authorize, and bill the customer’s registered account for the charging session. The entire process allows for a seamless charging experience.

The Plug&Charge feature is enabled by advanced vehicle-to-grid communication technology that utilizes encrypted security measures. It follows the ISO 15118 standard, an international standard that outlines the secured communication protocol that an EV and charging station should use to recharge the EV’s battery. It enables simplified charging functionality for the most prevalent EV charging connector type, called the Combined Charging System (CCS).

This innovative technology is now available on all Electrify America chargers across the U.S., and Electrify America is the first company to offer the service to multiple automakers. Even better, 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E buyers will receive five free charges at these stations with their purchase.

Electrify America offers the fastest charging technology available today to provide charging speeds of up to 150 and 350 kilowatts, a breakthrough for the network that debuted in May 2018. It also offers the largest open DC fast-charging network in the U.S., has more than 500 charging stations open to the public with over 2,200 individual chargers.
User reports from various EA stations in the upper Midwest are not positive in regards to hitting 150kW rates. Many reports of sub 50kW rates. Haven't followed Florida or other warm weather states.

I hit 151 in Emporia, VA today on one of the 350kW EA chargers.
Better start listing the outdoor temperatures with the charging speeds. Brutal speeds featured at Michigan locations.

How long did it stay at that rate, 5 minutes, will be interesting to see these curves.
I had issue with Ford Pass. It would cut off at 50% and then at 60%. I got frustrated and just started paying it.

It stayed over 111 until about 70%. At 70 % it dropped to 93 and crept down to between 81-85 by 80%. So far that has been the norm for me. If you charge at 50% your stay is 15 minutes. If you are in the 17 plus range 38 is more likely.

Now I have to qualify is that the more we drive the more miles before charging. At first it was roughly 60-80 miles. Now we are doing 150. At home my 100% is 240.

How long is it holding those power numbers and what does it end up settling down to?
When I hit the 155 it stayed there for a very short time. The ONLY reason I knew it was because of the receipt I got when I paid for it. I will say from 17% to 70% consistently it stayed in excess of 105. At 70% it dropped to the low 90’s and at 75% it drops to the low 80’s. The temperature outside was irrelevant between 38 degrees to 65 degrees. The biggest loss of efficiency was driving below 40 degrees. Above 40 the usage/KWH was 2.5-2.6. Below 40 the usage dropped to 1.8.

In short temperature on the MME is more effected on driving than on charging. On a side note when stopped for 38 minutes at 35 degrees with having to continually get in and out of the car because of major Ford Pass issues and the car off it was really warm due to the sealed nature of the car. Even with getting in and out about 3 times it was still warm. The car also heated up instantly after that time frame as well. My previous car was no where close to that.

Hopefully all the testing with the MMEs out now will get the P&C system bugs worked out. I am so used to using my phone to initiate a charge I'll be able to deal with the charging situation for awhile.

OT- While I'm disappointed in 1.8 below 40, and 2.6 above, I guess that is in line with expectations and what we have seen posted on the forum. I actually never really paid attention to the mpge until now, looked at the graph on our MB last night and above 60 degrees it was averaging about 3-5 mi/kwh. With a 100mi max range it's battery pack is considerably smaller, but it is a 6yr old car too.

Probably not a fair comparison- since I would imagine you are driving considerably faster than I was, typically around 66mph. I suspect the MME will do well if one stays anywhere near posted speed limits.

The biggest loss of efficiency was driving below 40 degrees. Above 40 the usage/KWH was 2.5-2.6. Below 40 the usage dropped to 1.8.

I'll get more details up and edit my videos. However, I see a curve consistent with what Bjorn got:
https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/mme-charging-curve-data-collection.1617/post-113656
IIRC:
150kW for 2-4 minutes
100-110kW until 40-60% SOC
about 80kW to 80% SOC
Immediate drop to ~15kW at 80% SOC

So the 150 is useful in a Zap-and-Dash (the 60 miles in 10 minute charges). It's not that important for a charge to 80%.

Thanks, good to know! It's also useful to have this information should Ford ever decide to improve the charging profile via OTA update.

Polestar 2 just got its first OTA and it improved the vehicle's range and especially its charging speed significantly.
