Interesting. What about changing what is actually displayed in the instrument cluster? Where are the settings hidden for that?
You can't customize individual elements. Rather the IC changes based on other factors including:
- driving mode
- lane keeping enabled/disabled
- ACC/ICC enabled/disabled

As of now, we can't change what's displayed. Aside from changing drive modes, and turning driver assist stuff on or off that moves things around.

Got it. I could have sworn that when I test drove the car it didn't have the little car driving from the left side of the screen to the right showing the range. Because of a tire incident, yeah I destroyed a tire on the test drive when pulling it into my garage and then they didn't have one in stock, the MME had to go back to the dealer for a week. Upon its return, it now has this "animation." I easily could just have forgotten about it.

Thanks for everyone's help!

That changes with the drive mode. The little car with the bar graph is only there when you're in Engage mode with Lane Keep off.

Yeah always thought it was odd that Engage had a much different view as compared to Whisper and Unbridled. Perhaps they assumed that most drivers would use Engage.

Does this actually work? Does car play or android auto navigation display in the instrument cluster?
Yes it does work. I just confirmed that it does during a drive using CarPlay with my iPhone 12 Pro and all current software.

Interesting. It didn't work for me, but i'm sure it is user error on my part. I'll give it a try on a long drive I need to do tomorrow.

You were able to get navigation on the cluster screen using carplay? I don't believe it, I've been using all apps on carplay and looked through all settings.

When I bought my minivan in 2017, it was one of the first Honda vehicles to support CarPlay and Android Auto. From day one I was able to get turn-by-turn directions in the instrument cluster when using Android Auto, and didn't realize until months later the same could not be said for CarPlay. It doesn't really bother me because the van is my daily driver and my wife who is an iPhone user only drive it occasionally. When I Google'd this issue back then, all the top hits were about Honda vehicles, so I thought it was a Honda limitation rather than an Apple one, because I vaguely recalled Apple touting this feature at one of its WWDC events; but in hindsight it was only because Honda added CarPlay and Android Auto support to its entire product line quickly, the same issue had existed on vehicles of all other makes.

Yes, Apple announced the feature with fanfare at WWDC 2016, and here is the presentation on CarPlay.

https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2016/723/?time=169

At the 2 minute 56 second mark of the presentation, it said that starting with iOS 10 the metadata being delivered to the vehicle's head unit would include the next turn-by-turn direction. However, the earliest implementation on the head unit side that I have read about is BMW iDrive 7 after its July 2020 update. Why did this feature arrive more than three years after it had been available in Android Auto, and four years after Apple had first announced it, I have no clue.

Thanks for calling me a liar. You had better be awfully sure of yourself before calling another person a liar. Truth will out. That said, I will try to replicate before being too sure of myself.

Literally tell me where I called you a liar. I just said I don't believe it that.

Not believing something someone said doesn't make them a liar, could just be a mistake.

Android auto works, carplay doesn't.

You are right. Sorry about over reacting. Help me out here. I am trying to learn. Attached is a photo with directions in the cluster while using Apple Car Play Maps. Could a possible explanation be that both the built-in Nav and Apple Car Play Maps are both running at the same time and the built-in Nav is putting the directions in the cluster while I am watching my route on Apple Car Play? If you are right (and you very well might be), I can't think of any other explanation. What do you think?

No picture, but you validated my suspicion that the IC directions you were seeing were built-in Nav driven. Try driving around without the built-in nav...

Did you set your destination and started navigation in both? If you did, you would know. (Why would you do that?) But if that's indeed what you did, you're right that the instrument cluster instructions are from the built-in nav.

Yes that method works, I've done that before, but it's not the native carplay. It would be easier if carplay worked I hope apple or ford fixes this
