It's a good idea and economically sensible.
Although the amount of Tesla's lined up to get on to the bank of chargers near here would see this as not so helpful.

Wonder how the Tesla fans will think about this.
I didn't buy the Mach - E because Tesla has a better charging network that it can now use.

A larger charging infrastructure is helpful. Now just need a charging standard rather than adapters.

It's great. The idea is to get away from Ice as quickly as we can right? Elon said it's all about the enviroment and getting reusable energy and electric cars right? So why not let everyone use everyone's. If you have to charge 5 cents more. But the option to use all chargers gives all of us more places to go and farther to travel.

Yes. I am sure there will be a surcharge and that gives Tesla drivers advantage still which is still good for business. And everyone gets access to needed power. So long as the surcharge is not a super surcharge. ?

Look forward to the next couple of years.

I could see this working on a case-by-case basis where Tesla approves certain vehicles for access. I really don't see Tesla opening up their network to 50 kW Bolts that tie up a 250 kW V3 Supercharger stall for an entire hour to top up when 3 Teslas could have cycled through in that hour.

If Tesla works with other OEMs to open the network to validated vehicles, use Plug&Charge to ensure nobody "sneaks" a Bolt in, then sure this could work. If Tesla ever moves to CCS-1 in North America this would align perfectly with that transition.

The entire selling point of Superchargers for Tesla owners is the experience, and the last thing they're going to want, IMO, is a bunch of random slow charging non-Tesla clogging up the Supercharger stations when their own owners arrive.

Work with Ford to enable Mach-Es, VW for Taycans and e-Trons and ID.4s, etc. but set a limit where if your EV can't achieve 125 kW then you can't use, etc.

Alternatively, just make it time-limited. 30 minutes maximum and can't charge again at the same station for an hour. This encourages faster charging speeds from OEMs and drivers to move on down the road.

If it was actually about the environment and getting people to use electric cars, Tesla would have agreed to adopt the standard rather than keep chugging away with a proprietary plug. Just switch to the J1772/CCS and be done with it.
(Edit: Imagine car company X deciding that all of their ICE vehicles had to use a specific fueling adapter that either only exists at THEIR proprietary stations or their customers had to buy an adapter to use the rest of the fueling infrastructure...)

Well, if the link is correct and Tesla has decided that all that is needed is a CCS adapter and the Tesla app, I'm guessing they can make this happen very quickly. The app just needs to let one add a non Tesla VIN. You can already open an account and set up your payment credit card. You can even buy a CCS1 adapter from a South Korean company for over $800 and guessing that Tesla's price will be closer to the CCS2 $200 they already sell in Europe. I'm hoping this is all available by the time I get my Mach-e ordered February 23. Will make road trips much less stressful having this option.

If Tesla truly wanted to promote EVs for all, why aren't there Chademo and/or CCS chargers at Supercharger locations? The extra cost to add one more charger is not that much compared to the total cost of the location. This would increase overall the return on investment at that station.

Is anyone even making anything w/ Chademo any longer? I thought everyone moved to CCS

Interesting update on Tesla opening their SCN to other EVs

https://na01.safelinks.protection.o...bqmP6PQM1Ksoh73QK4SMVSbpJRj7TqeCM=&reserved=0

Not sure if this means USA also, and when. Tesla would need to sell a CCS1 adapter here. Understand they already sell a CCS2 adapter in Europe for about $200.
I wonder how much of this is really for a PR piece and drive the stock price up? Has Tesla actually stated you as a non Tesla EV owner can call us up and for fee get on the network? No. Have they announce a "soon" to arrive adaptor? No. Remember the CEO stated in 2018 a Model S would soon be self driving itself across the USA. In 2021 Tesla has yet to obtain level 3 autonomic driving.

Not a Tesla fan, but not a hater either. Following Elon's comments in December, the linked article seems more than promising. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but believe this would be close to a game changer if it happens anytime soon.

Those adapters are for plugging a Tesla car into a CCS charger, not the other way around. A TeslaTap adapter would allow you to physically plug a non-Tesla car into a Supercharger, but I’m not sure they could handle the power level even if Tesla allowed it to work.
