at every point including the very last screen there was the option to bail and go traditional dealer stuff. so I'd expect if you were worried about a test drive, that's how you'd handle it.

at no point did I ever hit a point of no return. the only real "unavoidable" thing was the hard credit inquiry when I got to that point with the Ford Credit process, which if you punt to the dealer for financing or say you're paying cash, would be avoided I'd expect.
First thank you so much for putting this together ?

My dealer just recently told me my car is on final route and should be their early next week .. so I’ll be doing the same real soon ..

one thing I really like to know is .. Can I do everything online first except the final “submit to dealer” .. then go to the dealer to look over the built quality before submitting to dealer ..

also how long after you press “Submit to dealer“ the dealer got the ePaperwork ?

being able to do the credit app completely within Ford land and not in dealer land was huge for me. I didn't want the dealer to do "shopping around" games on the credit application or any of that nonsense.

it also let me see all the Options stuff light up correctly...

if I was trading in, avoiding the back and forth on that would have been a big deal for me. none of this "gaming the trade-in amount" nonsense. and if I didn't trust the dealer to honor the Ford site, I'd at least have a competitive number to look at Carvana etc. with.

it told me about accessories that I might not have known about...

and, if my dealer had their act together, it could have been a "walk in/dealer drive up, get the keys, tada." I suspect some people will get that "ideal" experience.

if you've ever been through the multihour "sitting wasting time at a dealer while the finance person waits so you're worn down" nonsense...

my dealer, which definitely did not have their act together, didn't do the extended warranty hard push or anything, I suspect because I had been through all of this.

but these are all my takes on it.
Thanks for this info! I agree..it helps eliminate (hopefully) that finance manager dealership nonsense.

It did not show when I went through the online process so I did not complete it and just did it at the dealer. What was funny was that the online process saw my $500 deposit but the dealer did not and wanted us to complete the process without it and they would “refund it later because the person who had the records was on vacation”. When we insisted they find it and credit it (after pulling up a copy of the cc statement showing they charged it), they did some additional digging and finally found it (credited to the wrong order supposedly).
If you don't mind me asking, when did you complete your purchase?

I have a friend who did the purchase online last week and had the same issue of the CA rebate not showing up. He didn't realize this until he got to the dealership so they ended up having to redo the paper work ?

Hopefully there's a Ford employee lurking on these boards who can send in a word to the proper channels to fix this :)

I'd really like to minimize contact with the dealer as much as possible. Since my purchase (presuming I follow through on it -- never an absolute certainty of course) will be a cash deal, the catch will be an inspection and test drive of the vehicle before funding the purchase. It'll be interesting to see how that is handled. Also no guarantee my dealer will participate in this process at all.

The devil, as always, is in the details.

Thanks for the write-up @GoGoGadgetMachE.

That last screen suggests you can just not sign the paperwork until you go in and do your inspection ... since I couldn't e-sign anyway that's what happened.

no idea how long until the dealer gets the paperwork since the dealer sucked.

Thank you so much for posting all this info! I hope when mine arrives, the web site will make this available promptly. It's amazing that Ford can make the web site do all this, but are unable to get it to send a notification e-mail. I still haven't received any and don't expect to.

That was not the case for me. The online checkout process was great, but my dealership messed up their part enough that I think it would have been easier just to skip it. I think the process at the dealership went wrong in just about every way it could, but to your point, the majority of the time I spent at the dealership was either with the finance manager or waiting for my turn with the finance manager. The FM had my online selections, but just used them as a template to complete their own paperwork - and still entered some info wrong. They completely ignored my selections for anything they could upsell, and insisted on explaining all of the warranty and protection options to me again.

One surprise upside, though: the final price ended up actually being lower than what Ford listed during checkout. My dealership had a $199 "doc" fee and a separate $280 "state registration fee", which were both listed during the ford.com checkout. When I spoke with the local finance manager though, they lowered the sale price of the car by $199 (instead of removing the fee) because - according to them - Ford won't allow them to charge above MSRP. Why this only applied to the one fee I can only guess; but it sounds to me like an admission that the doc fee is just BS.

Some other misc. points worth noting: ford.com lowered the price of the car by my $500 deposit during checkout; but the dealership just added the deposit to my down payment instead. This and the fee changes definitely led to some confusion during financing as basically every calculation I'd made prior to starting the transaction had to be redone. I also tried the trade-in function with my 2010 Focus (just to see if it was worth digging out of the snow) and the result was basically "your car isn't worth enough for a quote, but bring it in anyway if you want."

I received an email notification with a link to the checkout page the night my car arrived in-state. It was still on the boat and wouldn't be loaded onto the train to my city until the next day, so there's something weird about the process.

Well seems my Dealer is still learning how to do this as well .. Great news my car was delivered to the dealer this morning.. I went to see because the Ford website still say it’s in transit and I still don’t have the option to complete the purchase online ..

anyways when I looked up the Ford option plan online it gave me a instant Ford $2500 incentive .. however the dealer said they only see a $2100 NY clean fuel incentives and I think that’s the standard instant state .. not the Ford incentives.. am I right about that?

also do you know how long after your car was delivered you get the option to complete your purchase online? Because it would be so much easier doing all this online vs with a Dealer still learning..

Yes, I purchased mine in NY a month ago.
$100 ADA incentive from Ford
$2000 NYS EV incentive from NYS direct to dealer
The dealer will only see/be able to apply the additional $2500 Options bonus cash once they start the Options financing process.

My dealer was able to figure out Options and email me exact details on all costs and how they were calculated (invoice, X Plan, tax, fees, NYS registration, $500 deposit), and then a couple of snapshots of Options pricing (including the $2500 and my stated down payment preference) for a few term/mileage combinations. I asked them for 36 months/10.5k miles, 48 months/10.5k miles, and 48 months/12k miles.

The numbers on this email (before I ever showed up at the dealer) matched my caclulations to within a few cents. You need to be clear that you want to use Options to finance, they may or may not be familiar with it yet......

it was overnight:
and notice the status on top shows "Complete Purchase / Ready". My experience was that it did not light up until overnight - my car had arrived at the dealer Wednesday morning, about 10:45 am, but this process wasn't available until Thursday morning.
I think that may have been the case for @generaltso as well but I forget if he said that was the case or if I just read that into it.

Disappointing but thank you for this info! I’m trying to do as much research as I can since my dealer gave me some inaccurate info regarding Ford Options. I was very glad I read the threads on here. It will be awhile until I get my MME so hopefully the dealer has more experience with it by the time I pick up my MME. I truly hate this process!

The online option never actually became available for me. Even 3 days after I picked up the car, it still says my dealer will contact me to complete the purchase.
