It's potentially worse than that. There are rumors that the new credit will only apply to vehicles built in the US ... which the Mach-E is not.
I've been trying to research this in the context of the USMCA trade agreement. I haven't had much luck finding anything specific, but I suspect that all vehicles made in North America might qualify. USMCA may prohibit differential tax treatment for goods made in member countries.

The article states "American-made EVs" in paragraph 5. It does not specifically say "U.S.-made". That's also the wording of the Biden press release. I realize that when most people say "America", they mean the USA, but there is a troubling lack of specificity in that.

Thanks for taking the time to try and research into this. I agree the lack of specificity is concerning.

Hopefully as the infrastructure plan begins to take shape we can get some clarity on this, because it's got the potential to be a huge impact on Mach-E buyers. Either a bump up to 10k or a drop down to 0 depending on the language of the bill.. yikes!

Don't you think they'll change that to "made in North America"? Then Mexico gets included along with Canada.

This will need clarity pretty quickly. There will be some people shifting their purchases a few months depending on the timing.

If there's free cash on the hood, people will take it and car manufacturers/dealers will adjust accordingly.

One would hope that they change the language to allow that.. but there's no way of knowing what's being discussed behind closed doors.

There's a thread about Ford Corporate watching this forum. Ford - get the lobbyists to make sure the Mach-E does not get excluded from the future tax incentive! Thanks ??

I'm also wondering if Tesla, with their habit of changing pricing on a whim, will also adjust accordingly. They could use the extra cash per unit to invest in their service centers.
Excellent point. The cost of a Tesla could actually go up ?

If this went into effect for Tesla, I would find it likely that Tesla would raise their prices to take advantage of some of the credit, just like how they lowered their prices when the credit went away as if it was a coincidence that the price to manufacture the car dropped at the same time as the subsidy disappearing.

Better yet... Ford, bring Mach-E manufacturing to the United States so we can be sure it will qualify for tax incentives.

Yes, but you aren't allowed to apply for the tax credit, because you shouldn't be subjecting yourself to the tyranny of taxation to begin with
I don’t understand why I should be unable to recover stolen property. ?

Yup. Chevy dropped the price of the Bolt after GM used up all of their tax credits.
