SImple solution to PAAK problem. Get another FOB until they fix it.....granted, Ford should provide this but they are not that expensive. My dealer programmed the second key that I bought online for nothing. That was after my wife unloaded on them for not wanting to honor a prior trade-in offer. When she raised hell in lobby about them being dishonest and lying they fell over backwards to get her to shut up as there were about a dozen other potential customers in lobby.

But your car knows when you go to the beer store... lol.
You know if you are in trouble if every time you get in your car intelligent suggestions asks if you want to go to the store to buy beer.

I think some of the other experts will chime in, but... Paak uses Bluetooth. Bluetooth takes about 5 to 10 seconds to "handshake" and establish communication. So if you approach your vehicle, and the phone connects to the car 5-10 seconds before you get there, PaaK will work well. Fast walkers will have problems, lol.

Some on here have mentioned NFC (Near Field Comm) as an alternate. This is basically an RFID system, at about 14mHz. Good for "swipe to pay" systems. Pros of NFC are low power and fast (<1 sec) handshake, it is a simple protocol and it's robust, i.e. it works nearly 100% of the time. Cons are range is usually less than 6 inches. Bluetooth has about 10x the data rate as NFC, but for stuff like unlocking a door, not much data is passed, so it doesn't matter. I think it is inevitable you will see some sort of NFC on Ford BEVs in the future.
Just as long as the final application of NFC isn't like the hotel PaaK systems. Not only do you have to pull out your phone and hold it right up to the lock, in some you have to open the app and press the button in the app. No thanks, I'll use the plastic room key.

We use PaaK almost exclusively. The only exception since we returned from FL was to take Marlin to the body shop. I'm not giving them my phone!

Hilton uses BT. Marriott seems to use NFC. In newer hotels it works great. Older hotels can be hit or miss. Long delays sometimes. Kinda like PaaK. ??

Don't know about that, but it's definitely a solution in search of a problem. I was just thinking, that if Ford distributed 2 fobs, would anyone say: damn it, I wish I could use my phone as a key?

Whatever effort went into writing all the code for PAAK would have been better spent improving FordPass app.
This feature reeks of trying to be like the competition

According to my testing.....
The phone must be connected to the internet via cell or wifi in order for PaaK to work.
It does not require cellular phone data.

I've entered and started the vehicle with just my phone, with mobile data completely disabled. It worked great.

But were you in an area where your MME had service?

So walking fast is my problem. And wanting to do things NOW. Got it. Don’t think I can change that though. I’ll just stick to my trusty fob. Plus I don’t like that the car unlocks every time I go to the garage with my phone in my pocket. My beer fridge is in my garage. My tools are in my garage. The freezer is in my garage. The trash bins are in my garage. I feel obligated to leave my phone in the house continuously, just so I don’t wake the car up and then have it honk to say goodbye when I leave. I’ll just grab my key fob off the hook by the door when I actually want to use the car. Don’t need my car reporting to the mothership how many beer I’ve had this week.
I disabled the good-bye honk - that was super annoying. But otherwise I agree it’s annoying for the phone to wake up the car every time you walk into the garage.

Same here with data off. Paak is very hit or miss so I don't feel comfortable relying on it.

100% agree. FordPass sucks so bad. I’d much rather get that fixed up first.

Yes. But Greg's contention was that phone data is required.

I haven't had an opportunity to test without vehicle modem connectivity.
I wish I had the opportunity to test my MME...??

I generally like the honk. It reassures me that the car locked itself as I walk away from it at the store. It’s also like a little “goodbye- see ya soon,” from the car.
I like it A LOT less at home when it’s 6AM and I’m getting home from work and the car honks to wake up the dog so he can bark and wake up my kids. I wish I could configure the horn not to honk at the home location.

My "miss" to hit ratio is pretty small. So I'm comfortable with PaaK at this point, given the pin + password backups.

My lingering question is for unexpected service... Something comes up with the vehicle, I need to bring it to service... Do I have to go home first to get the key fob? Can service do what they need to do with just valet mode?
