We still have our Escape too, which has been great on road trips. But we are gonna try the MME on selective trips - ones where it looks like there's convenient-enough DCFC and destination charging. I'm planning it all out ahead of time. Gonna add about 2 hours each direction to our normal travel time.

Wherever it's not convenient enough, we'll just take the Escape on that trip.

First test will be a Denver-Vegas drive in 2 weeks.
Good luck! I’m sure everything will go fine.

Nice.
I hope they improve their screens in direct sunlight. It was pretty difficult to read and I couldn't quite figure out what I was supposed to do next - never having done this.
I will say Plug and Charge worked on my first and only attempt so far.
(outside me not understanding there was a button I had to push to start the whole process)
I have also had good luck with Plug and Charge. Once I figured out that you have to hit the “continue“ button to actually start charging, of course. Maybe Electrify America can push a software update that changes the name of that button from “continue“ to “start charging“ to make it more obvious.

Ah, yes, thanks for the reminder that I need to login to that website and pay for my bridge crossing back and forth last week!

Apparently Indiana is one of those pay-by-time states, but it was actually my cheapest charge on that trip, as it was the only EA station that ever hit over 150 kW. Plug and Charge didn't work, though.

(Met some nice folks interested in my car while I was there.)
To get the charger to start working with Plug and Charge, you need to hit the “continue“ button after the authorization screen is done doing its thing.

I submitted a site recommendation (Myrtle Beach, SC) and when I hit sent the form just went back to the EA website with no confirmation email or anything so not sure if it went through or crashed but it would be really nice to have one down here.

I'm doing the same trip in 10 days in my delivered-yesterday Mach-E. Any charging suggestions - charging sites to stop at or avoid - that you could make?
I just did a road trip and before the road trip, I planned out where I was most likely to charge. In my case, it was primarily ElectrifyAmerica, with possible charge ups at EVGo and ChargePoint. So before I left, I installed the apps for all three networks and did a test charge to make sure everything was working properly. Of course, none of the three networks worked on the first charge but I squashed the bUSS before hitting the road. I had no problems charging anywhere. And Plug and Charge worked at all of the Electrify America stations I visited with the exception of one. With respect to the charger, I just simply went into the FordPass app to start that charger and everything worked, no problem. So, my recommendation is to do a test charge at the networks you are likely to encounter before hitting the road.

EA is doing an update on the stations from a specific manufacturer (not sure which one), and offering free charges until the update is squared away. I only know this because I pulled into a station a bit ago and tried to activate from the Ford Pass app. It failed, so I just plugged in and pressed continue and was prepared to use the app to pay. The car just started charging right up, so I called to see if the station somehow recognized my account and was going to bill through the app. They said until the upgrade is complete the charging is free, despite the amount being shown on the screen. Needles to say I'm not unplugging at 80% as I'd originally planned ??

EA's customer service is great, so I don't want to blow up their spot, but since there probably aren't more than a few Mach Es in SF, I'll just say it's the Safeway on Webster Street. No idea how long it will be free, but if you need a top up today might be a good time to visit the Fillmore district ?

Thanks for the advice. I have a Bolt and have set up accounts at all of the charging networks but unfortunately, all of the ID cards are in the Bolt's glove compartment in another state. I did plan out my FL-MD route and all the stops will be EA.

EA fixed the Apple situation. Now works like a charm. My wife found an EA station in LA that was FREE. She sat there it was a 150 but it charged her car form 52% to 80% in 8 minutes....heck that is AWESOME AND FREE

It charged the Mach-E that fast?? 52-80% is 28% of 88 kWh = 24.6 kWh / 8 minutes (0.133 hours) = 184 kW. Never seen it go that high, although maybe it was more like 9 minutes, which would be 164 kW. That's pretty much the peak we've heard so far.

But even that's unprecedented, as people getting ~160 kW have only been able to get it starting below 40% SOC, and only for maybe 2 minutes. The 40%-80% SOC slice is usually in the 80-120 kW area.

I absolutely agree. However my wife sat there and called me. I was shocked. Apparently from what she told me it started height but at 70% it was still at 95 KWH. In short she got great charging throughout the cycle AND IT WAS FREE.

now I sill say that her car is getting crazy charge rates here at home. She has a premium AWD with the 98 large battery. Same set up as my FE which I got 1 month earlier. It has taken me6200 break in mikes to get to 250 charge at 100% at home. Hers has 400 miles and charges to 262. Neither one of us has had any updates. Maybe star white cars with the light interior affects the battery rate. I have no idea.

I see your point. Why the infrastructure needs catch up. I envision solar being put on car’s roof. They can make them look like the defroster lines in the glass! This way while your car is sitting out in the sun or driving it can charge at the same time. Wouldn’t this be awesome. I usually charge at home too, it’s convenient for sure. Usually not stopped at a place long enough to charge where they are available.
I was talking to my son about having fast charging at rest areas. He’s a Project Engineer, who works in this space of EV charging infrastructure. He was saying, in addition to the lack of power at rest areas for DCFC, most states have laws forbidding the sale of services/products at state owned facilities, like rest areas. Just another hurdle to deal with in getting more EV charging stations.

Bummer! I wrote to EA in support of them building a DC fast charger on Illinois I-88 at DeKalb exit and they said they'd look into it. Oasis has huge clean restrooms, nice food court, ample lighting and parking, etc. In other words, an ideal location. But, there is also a Meijer, Walmart and Target in DeKalb just off the tollway. With Biden proposing this huge infrastructure bill maybe things will change in this area as well in order to promote EV vehicles.

I hate to say this but I have the EXACT same issue. My FE gets at most 250 at home and I have 6800 miles. My wife’s AWD STAR WHITE PREMIUM with 400 miles and the large battery charges to 265. Always has. I think the STAR WHITE is the best mileage car. Neither one of us has had ANY update. My only issue is I cannot get hers to activate on the Ford pass app. Ford has escalated the issue. Trying to activate hers on my account has deactivated both cars.

They both have the same battery, of course, and thus are both getting the same amount of kWh. The difference is one car has a higher recent mileage history that it's using to estimate range.

The range display (often referred to as a GOM: Guess-O-Meter, for good reason) doesn't mean much.
