Interesting comment about all the room under the trunk floor that could have been used for sub-trunk storage. Maybe in a future refresh.
That is an option for sure but certainly is not a deal breaker. There could be a bit more room such that the charger does not need to be perfect. For us storage is acceptable so far. Fit a large rain barrel in sideways with seats up.

Sandy was pretty excited that he could chill/drink pop with it ;). Hope he buys it to tear down. He can set the frunk up on the side and make some use of it.

I have no idea how the batteries are structurally integrated with other EVs of this class, but I was pretty surprised to see how easy it would be to drop the battery out from underneath. As a tinkerer, it certainly makes me wonder if there'll be the potential for aftermarket battery upgrades/hacking in a few years (decades?) whenever the next leap in tech and chemistry occurs.

Check out the Bolt battery series from Professor John Kelly:

The thought to cost and time of repairs is definitely a selling point in the long run. Especially if the design is not changed for awhile.

Was that a speaker hanging down from the back end? The back up beep speaker?

i like his old school honesty... including admitting his previous bias in not expecting much out of ford and not even wanting to look at the mach-e ("thought it'd be a waste of time").

it's nice to know the quality of design underneath the skin, as much as i love the skin and how the car drives...

I really liked the short HV cable runs coming from each end. This is good engineering for several reasons and will also make battery service easier.

I wonder if on the GT, that space available, gets reduced for GT specific components?

Somebody get a GT in the Air so we can see it's rear underside!

This is great, sounds like if there is ever an accident or other issue affecting the rear, it will be relatively easy for mechanics to access because of all the space and simpler components also sounds cheaper to repair to me.

I bet though cutting through the metal and putting a plastic tub would result in more road noise coming into the cabin. Maybe an acceptable trade off, but I really like how quiet the Mach-E is and wouldn’t want to compromise that. Perhaps it would be a better move for the Escape BEV when it arrives.
