Of relation to the Mach E, I noted this in the article
With Model 3 and Model Y, we have seen that, outside of California, the time of reservation has little to no impact on when you get your car.
I have to take the article at face value and assume that statement is accurate, and if so, then Ford has an avenue to make a mark with Mach E reservations. It makes more sense now why Ford seemed to re-iterate a "worldwide launch" and also seems to be repeating that all 50 states are going to be equally serviced. If this is an area where Tesla isn't as strong in, then Ford can come in and bat a win for reservation holders!

That is not news to anyone who had reservations on the Model 3, and I can confirm its accuracy.
I had a reservation on the day of unveiling. Later it became evident that, despite a low reservation number, I wouldn’t be a priority for delivery in South Carolina, where I lived at the time. More than two years later, I decided to drive something else.

In all fairness, Tesla announced early on that California deliveries would take priority. However, it later became apparent that certain markets were prioritized after that (hint: S. Carolina wasn’t one of them). So reservations in Texas, the northeast, and Florida that were made many months after mine, were taking delivery long before me. In other words, priority went by region more than by reservation number. I hope Ford doesn’t follow that approach even though now I do live in an area with likely “high priority”.

I put it in a reservation for the Tesla solar roof a couple of weeks ago. Tesla told me the waiting list in my area is 6 to 9 months. I'm really hoping to get done this year to take advantage of the 26% tax credit.

I believe Ford's dealership situation is a whole lot different than Tesla's (quantity and distribution.) This should preclude them from favoring certain areas. We'll see.

" If this is an area where Tesla isn't as strong in, then Ford can come in and bat a win for reservation holders! "

Big Tesla fan here, Model 3 and Model Y pre-orders. Ford does have a huge opportunity here. Tesla is used to being the only game in town, and it shows with their attitude. Cars roll off the line with egregious cosmetic issues, panel gaps, missing screws, etc. And these issues don't seem to improve much, even now with their 5th generation vehicle. Tesla also has absolutely terrible customer service. If you have an issue, or god forbid get in an accident and need repair, you are probably in for a nightmare experience. I love what Tesla has done. I love the tech. But fit and finish is still below average for what are very $$$ cars, and customer support is abysmal.

This is why I'm now looking at the MachE. I pre-ordered a Premium AWD LR yesterday (unfortunately late to the game). Ford's assembly line experience and service infrastructure can woo many considering a Tesla. And maybe, just maybe Tesla will get a clue and put some of the billions they now have on paper into real improvments.

Maybe, but I wouldn't get my hopes up for that one. Given how the launch plans had to be reworked because of the delays, I'm expecting less adherence to the order of reservations and more deference to "just get them out".

I think they'll still try to semi-follow reservation numbers though. And spread the early ones around the US to some degree. But I expect we'll see pockets of them in a few states (especially CA, and maybe TX since the rail lines probably enter the US from the Mexico plant there) weeks before all the other states start getting any.

I still Have not seen any "Official" info from Ford that US first deliveries will be delayed from the planned late Fall expectation. Production runs from the assembly plant are still close to 4 Months away to meet this goal.

By the way, a rail delivery from say San Antonio, TX to Boston, MA is only about 2,050 miles and even at a blazing 25 mph average is less than 4 days --- not weeks.

I didn't mean it takes weeks to get there, I meant I think the first batches may just be sent to where it's easiest and where they have large concentrations of orders (like CA, as we usually see with BEVs). Maybe a few weeks ahead of others. But that's just a guess.

They have officially announced that Europe deliveries will be delayed by months. Which then changes the planned distribution of vehicles coming off the line. I don't know exactly what order they produce vehicles, but I assume similar trims and features are batched together. Like for instance a big batch of Premium AWD ER, then a big batch of the next combinations, etc. Seems like that would be more efficient than each vehicle order with entirely different specs being produced one after another. Leading to a batching of deliveries that aren't in the exact order of reservation.

But I could be totally wrong. Frankly, I've wondered all along about the reservation sequencing being fully applied to delivery times, and how that could be done efficiently. I suspect it could really only be approximate, because of all the logistics and efficiencies involved. Now I'm guessing this situation will scramble that a little bit more.

Similar thoughts here. Have a 3, considered trading for a Y, really don’t feel like rolling the dice given they are in production hell again and refuse to address their random quality issues. There are other concerns, but initial quality is one they should have had solved by now.

And my paint, while ok, is still thin as could be. The paint on my Wrangler blows away that of the 3.

Drive train has been awesome though, Tesla definitely has the advantage there today.

Ford tempted me with the full tax credit and odds of a better quality/service experience so I ordered a Premium LR RWD today got reservation #10074201.

Welcome @Maric what are the reservation numbers up to now?
My order # is 10073155, placed 06/11/2020

This is odd though. What's the significance of the pre-order date? That's a future date.

It's formatted as DD/MM/YYYY. Kind of surprising since they localized most of the page for European countries and so forth, but I guess that one slipped through.

Let's hope our odometers increase the right-most digit first. :)

Congrats on your reservation!
