Hm, I'm exited if the German/European version looks like the American one. I'd never seen such a solution in Germany/Europe before.

Yep, its existence has been confirmed by a few people. I just don't think anyone has been able to determine what it does (if anything).
maybe it's the low speed pedestrian noise??

I'm 6'2" and previously owned a Mercedes ML320 (much taller than the MME) with a roof rack, and didn't have a problem. Although I must say that I have a preference for high-end bikes, so they're pretty light ;-)
my road bike is not a problem at 16#, but my Yeti MTB is closer to 30#.... AND I hate taking the MTB wheel off and putting it inside the car. much easier to use the rear hitch rack, and better aerodynamics, AND lower risk forgetting a bike is up when pulling into the garage. ;)

No drilling but you have to cut a hole in the underbody cover to have the hitch stick out. That's why this isn't for everybody. Maybe one day we can buy the Euro underbody cover so the hole is pre-cut.
I can understand the reluctance to cut something on one's nice new car - I felt the same way. But once I got over that, making the cut was very easy, perhaps the easiest part of the installation. Just be sure to measure carefully. You can make the openings a little smaller than the instructions say but note that the hitch (at least mine and others pictured on this forum) is offset a few mm to the driver's side. I got mine very close to being exactly centered by pushing the hitch as far as I could to the right side before tightening the bolts.

As far as hitch bike racks go, I was never a fan of that approach for carrying my bikes, but over the winter I began wanting to drive to a local park with my wife and our dog and bring along my fat tire bike. Without the hitch rack that meant removing the wheels on the bike, a bigger deal on my fat bike than my road bike. We started with a hitch rack on another car and was delighted that Torque Lift offered a hitch for the MME so soon after the vehicle introduction.

The hitch rack is very quick and easy to install/remove and eliminates the ever present worry I have had with a roof rack - driving it into the garage! The downside to the hitch rack, of course, is having an expensive, beloved bike in a location that is vulnerable to being damaged.

I'll admit that I'm not a fan of the thru-axle on my MTB, as it makes securing the fork to my Thule thru-axle roof rack adapter a balancing act, while the axle hangs from my mouth! Thankfully I still have direct-mount rim brakes on my road bike with a traditional QR.

I may have to succumb to the hitch after all is said and done, as I'm not going to trust my expensive carbon bikes to suction cup mounts!

Warning for Select owners!!!
My back end doesn’t look the same! I assume this is because I have a Select but it could also be that they have changed things (mine is 4/12/21 build date). My car doesn’t have a “diaper” and only has one piece of plastic that houses the reverse light and wraps up to the bumper. I haven’t tried to take this off yet and was wondering if anyone else has tired this install on a non-diaper model?

Your select is not different than mine. The 'diaper' is the piece between bumper and bellypan

Nice Yeti. I considered doing something like this (used to just toss my MTB onto the tailgate of my truck) but I think for now I’ll just take the front wheel off and pop in the back with seats down. Thru axle front makes it tolerable these days.

Does the one-up rack touch the bumper when you have it in the stow position? I’m asking as I have the hitch ready to go on but saw someone post that it rubs when not using the rack and it’s in the up position.
Thanks

I never 'stow' mine, I pull it off when not in use.....
but if you have a problem with stow or wide handlebars, you can always get a 8" or 12" extension.

Did you try folding yours up or just keep it down since you take it off.
