So based on these dates, for those that wants a FE but don't have it under reservation...Sept 1st will be the best day to place the order since Aug 31st is the deadline for those with FE reservation to do the conversion. Of course constantly checking in to see if a FE is available is probably what some will do.
Under the assumption that for reservation holders that don't respond at all and just let their reservation self-expire, you're probably right. Although for those that actively cancel their reservation sooner, that could be any day.

It's also possible some of those FE reservations have already canceled. So the first day the order book opens might be as good or better (although that'll probably be super-busy).

Wow, that's a much wider window than I expected. Surely many Premiums will already be in the queue for production before 12/31. Meaning anyone that waits until that late in the year to convert reservation-to-order will apparently be slotted later in the queue than their reservation slot. Which makes sense.

I kinda like that for my situation. I was planning on cancelling my res and trying to buy sometime next year after some hit the road for reviews, and I can sit in a demo first. But if I can keep my reservation in place until after the first roadtest reviews, and still be ahead of the general public next year, I may do that.
Just order before the end of the year.

Ford has still been saying there would be delivery of FEs and Premiums in late 2020. If so, folks who convert their Premium orders early may get earlier production and delivery. 31 December may be the cutoff for 2021 Premium orders but that doesn't mean production starts after 31 December.

Probably be cutting it close if I end up doing that. I'm still not too confident that all the delays are over with. Just a few additional weeks of delay could put the initial wave of deliveries well into Dec, with little time to read roadtest reviews. And even harder to find one somewhere to simply sit in first. I'm less concerned about actually driving it (pretty confident that will be fine). But I definitely want to sit in one first to check seat height, comfort, and overall feel.

I'm prepared to let my res expire if necessary and just wait until next summer if necessary.

My interpretation is that Dec 31st is the last day that Ford will hold your reservation before automatically cancelling it, not when production would start or end.

Edit: I'm guessing you can still order even after the 31st but you will lose the benefit of a reservation.

Seems like reservation slot/timestamp doesn't play a role in the ordering process. Only thing is those early reservation holders was able to reserve the FE and lock that in. Now it is free for all. You can reserve it today and order the same time as someone with a reservation in the 5000 range. So what is the point of standing in line?
NO, that is not the case at all. Reservations can be converted at will for a period of time. After that time, all the orders will be scheduled, with the 2 prime criteria of reservation timestamp and model (FE, Premum first).

I have a top 6300 reservation of a Premium model, I'm hoping the 8-12 week delivery timeframe is accurate

My final lease extension is up at the end of October, maybe before then? Who knows at this point
Can you hold your leased vehicle until December? November/December deliveries are much more likely.

Great question, I’m sure Ford will let me hold my lease until the Mach E arrives. I do appreciate all of the responses and feedback you’ve provided this forum, Ford should hire you ??

I’m in the same boat. My Ford lease is up in mid-October. If you have a vehicle on order you can extend the lease on a month by month basis, I think up to 6 months (I’d have to look up the exact number of times).
