Guys, Mach-E is a sporty SUV not comparable to the Escape.
Compare it to BMW X5 which have around the same 0-60 time.
Its MPG on highway is 26 mpg.
But BMW X5 seems to be sedan and small

The math may work out a little bit one way or the other, but if you’re using public charging, expect to be about the same 8-12 cents per mile that ice vehicles are getting. The biggest savings, for most people is charging at home during off peak hours.

I am one of those fortunate few, but I also realize that I am in the minority on that. That is why I said “… for most people…”. ?

Many months ago I got invited to a webinar hosted by Electrify America. These guys get nailed by demand charges during peak hours. I took a snapshot of this slide that was presented, have a look at the cost per KWH. In order to avoid these demand charges, they have to install large batteries to try to even out the loads during the peak rate hours. This peak was seen when 4 Audi E-Trons were charging at the same time, pulling 150KW each.

I just plan trips around free ChargePoint chargers.

Pennsylvania Dutch country and back to NJ and it was $1.50 because I stopped for an hour at Muni lot charger in Kutztown. The rest of them were free Chargepoint Level 2's

Basically EA tells us we are all screwed. As soon as lots of EVs hit the road the prices at the chargers will skyrocket far beyond gasoline.

As @AZBill points out it is extremely expensive to deploy and run DCFC stations. Unlike gas stations, by the very nature of BEV's ability to charge at home DCFC stations will be idle far more often. That means the costs have to be amortized over far fewer charging sessions, resulting in higher prices to consumers. The fact that charging rates are roughly on par with the average ICE car is encouraging, although we'll see where prices go as future market forces come into play.

Unfortunately a BEV is really only practical if you can charge at work/home.

Ford gives us two years of network charging. Not sure I understand the program. Does that give us cheaper rates at places like EA?

There are actually two things that can be done to help solve this:

1) Add batteries to the site to reduce the grid load during peak hours, this of course increases cost of the site.
2) Convince the electric companies to eliminate the demand charge for EV chargers. In some states, like Arizona, EA is partnering with the electric companies and likely can work out a solution.

That sneaky 'demand' add-on is a real scam. Our church got caught by that. It compares your lowest consumption to the highest and the greater the gap the more they charge. It is a gimmick the electric distributors use to rip off consumers. It goes against every environmental concept. The US government should make those charges unlawful - in the name of true conservation.
