Just read the story of the person who went on a round trip from Colorado to Washington. Got me thinking about something I noticed regarding the battery.
Purchased my Mach-E FE (AWD, extended range) from a dealer in St. Louis (I'm in KC about 240 miles away) on 4/16/21 to avoid waiting for my order. The initial battery range was 270 per Ford. When I got the car and charged it up to 100% it was actually 284 mi. I was impressed that it got more mileage than advertised.

Three weeks ago, I took a trip back to STL and charged it up to 100% before I left work. (Side note, I never charge it all the way to 100% and typically go to 90% per the literature). At that time the 100% range was 291 miles. I thought it was weird, but was happy. Maybe it was the "breaking-in" period for the batteries.?‍♂.

Anyway, there was one day last week when I accidently turned off the max limit and it charged to 100%. However, this time, the range was only 264 miles. I'm currently charging it today, and at 80% it's at 211 miles. If I do some basic math (211/0.80) that gives me 263 miles. I've been mainly charging at Level 2 chargers and only occasionally go to a DC fast charger.
Are we supposed to be seeing a degradation of battery life this soon? Is this just an anomaly? Just don't want to end up in a situation like some on here with the "Stop the car safely" alert and then trying to figure out when i'll get my car back.

The range estimate is just that: an estimate. It will vary based on previous patterns. Many things will impact it: driving style, highway vs. city, terrain, temperature, etc.

The range estimator will change all the time, based on your recent driving conditions and technique. It is not something to take literally.

You really need to stop thinking the GOM means anything. The only way to measure degradation is to measure battery voltage when charged to 100%. If that level comes down you have some plating of the anodes and are loosing capacity. Physics of these batteries is very well known and as safe as Ford is playing it you shouldn’t expect to loose much at all.

Thank you all for the fast replies and answers. Just found some other threads after posting saying that as well. Thanks again

Everyone paying attention to the GOM:

“It is just as accurate as that fortune teller at the county fair.”

That is all.

The GOM is based on driving habits and behavior of the driver, but also the temperature and other factors.
If you are doing mostly highway driving the range will go down. If you do less highway driving the range will go up. Likewise there is a machine learning algorithm implimented in it that learns how you drive.

I actually find the GOM to be pretty good, at least as far as range estimates dropping approximately evenly with actual miles traveled. The estimate at the START jumps around like a Wisconsin student section. If nothing else it communicates the idea that your range really WILL vary based on a ton of different factors.

With such a large buffer on the battery, you shouldn't be worried about degradation just yet. The battery pack should see 5-10% in the first 10k-15k miles and then it levels off, assuming the battery chemistry is similar to the others on the market.

Meh, psychics are always telling me I have a Labrador retriever. All they see is my camo clothes. I hunt over a Miniature Poodle. If the GOM is that bad, all I want to know is battery SoC and I’ll guess from there. ??

BTW, I love messing with them.
