The charging experience at the EA chargers is really bad. I used to get decent performance and could get through most sessions without a failure. On a recent visit I was only able to get 9kWh before failing, then tried again and got just 2kWh, then tried a last time and got just 4kWh. Right next to me was a new VW ID.4 that was happily charging the whole time, sitting at 40kW rate at 87% SoC when I looked. The owner was really nice and offered to end early for me in pity for my situation.

Come on Ford, this is embarrassing!

Did you happen to see which vendor the charging station was? I've had similar issues with ABB fast chargers. They seem to work about 75% of the time for me. The other 25% of the time I get very slow charging speeds, under 35kw.

It seems to happen more often with the 350kw ABB stations. But has still happened on 150kw ABB stations.

Signet stations haven't given me any issues yet.

For refrence:

I was also trying to charge next to a guy with a VW ID4 but I think he just happened to get the only plug that was working! Come on EA!!

Yes, after my car went into deep sleep and wouldn't wake up. I think maybe it was more reliable before the update?
The PAAK/12V drain updates are separate the OBCC update. Dealer likely wouldn't have done the OBCC update unless there was a specific concern with DC fast charging, since the OBCC module is only used for L3. I can double check if it was done if you provide VIN.

Here's the ridiculous thing: You can't get the TSB addressed, or at least have them check that you have the right firmware unless you actually get stranded. Then they're more than happy to get around to it at some point, but only if it a major hassle for you first.
Yes, the software situation on this car is a mess and wasn't fully tested at release. Full OTA capability can't come soon enough. No idea how long that will take. In the meantime people will still have to go into the dealers for updates as they continue to have issues. Later built cars should have less issues as they come from the factory with updated software.

I think it's important to note that each module in this car has it's own software that's updated separately, so just because the dealer updates one thing doesn't mean the whole car has been updated, it's all piecemeal. Much less advanced than Tesla that has a more unified architecture and regular updates via a fully-functional OTA system.

All it takes to get the update is have the issue happen one time. They just won't do the update because you want it done. But if your car actually has the issue, then they can do it.

If this is actually the issue OP is having, the DTC should be present, which would allow the dealer to preform the update.

The dealer told me they updated 6 different modules including the onboard charger. It would be good to know exactly what was updated though.

The count would be 7 total modules, the RFA module with the PAAK update, and the 6 powertrain modules with the 21-2091 TSB. The onboard charger is part of that TSB, but DC charging is another module entirely (OBCC - Off-Board Charging Controller). So by that count they didn't do it.

Interesting that you immediately assume the car is to blame. Did you call EA and have them reset the charger? That should be your next step when it fails twice. Did you try charging at another charger?

Yeah, it's doing the same behavior at other chargers too.
