Welp,

The original delivery window closed the other day without a peep from Ford about why my MME is just sitting in limbo when other same/similar builds ordered later are getting built updates. The sale value of my old car was starting to decline again for the first time in months so I quickly sold it, leaving me without a car for some unknowable duration into the future.

My order was for a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium EXT AWD in Infinite Blue with the black interior and interior protection package. Placed Feb 2nd, original build week starting 6/7, in production 6/12, never completed with an ETA End Date of Halloween. Maybe that's when it is intended to rise from the dead?

Although I'm sure that now that I've given up on it, it'll show up at the dealership unannounced.

I test-drove a certified pre-owned Audi SQ5 and loved it, the only tech I'd be missing is the eventual BlueCruise but who even knows if that'll be worth it when it's finally rolled out. The Audi had a HUD, really cool virtual cockpit/digital dash, great sound system, plenty of power for my needs and good handling. I know it's an ICE car, but there are some advantages to that even if I'm really looking forward to EV ownership.

I also looked at a Macan, MB GLC 43 and 63, BMW X3/4/5 and a handful of others. Tons of great options, especially if willing to go with one a couple years old with some miles on it.

But ultimately I settled on... a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium EXT AWD in Infinite Blue with the black interior, WITHOUT the interior protection package.

Luckily a rural dealership about 3 hours away has had one sitting on their lot for a while, one of the mannequins/loaner/demos. It has just over the 4,000 miles that they put on their mannequins so that they can sell but it's been on the lot for well over the 4 months needed. There was so little interest in it in this rural area with poor charging infrastructure that it clocked less than 40 additional miles in the last couple months from test drives and the employees taking it for short drives to avoid the 12V battery draining issue. I'm buying it for MSRP but with a warranty extension. As much as I wanted a pristine near-0 mile Mach-E, maybe there's an advantage to getting one that has a few miles on it, make sure there's no bugs/kinks? (or maybe I'm just telling myself that to feel better about it) Interior/exterior condition was flawless except for some dirty shoe marks on the plastic that were gone after a nice detailing. I managed to scuff up the clearcoat near the charging port door on my first charging stop, so go me.

We happened to be driving back from Missouri on the 26th and I had spied this car on Autotrader/CapitalOneAuto and decided at the very least to give it a test drive to decide if I even wanted to hold out for my MME. What if it turned out after all this time I hated it? The salesperson at the dealership was patient and generous with his time (even though he knew we had one on order elsewhere) as my wife and I poked around at it and took turns driving it, but by the end I was more sure about it than I had been before.

So during the week, we talked it over, looked at a few other cars, and decided to pull the trigger, put down $1000 to hold the vehicle and get the finance guys working on it. Drove up Saturday morning about 4 hours and road-tripped it back to DFW and had a great ride.

Very happy that we decided to go with it rather than continuing to wait another 1-2 months (or more.)

And so ends my saga.

Are you in or near Texas and looking for a similar car? I have no idea when it will be delivered, but I'll update this post/thread with details about the car once I inform Autonation Ford Frisco that I'm releasing my order.

Also, we named the new Mach-E 'Marceline'

Congrats though! I've got the same order config and same initial build week as you but was lucky enough to only have to wait about a month for them to finish the build and ship. It arrived in KC and it should take delivery by the end of August. Very excited!

Nice, glad you got one! Sorry your original order was such a shit-show - I ordered literally 2 days before you and mine was built in May and delivered July 17th. No idea why some orders go smoothly and some go poorly, wish there was more communication for everyone.

I bet the minute you canceled the dealer lined up another buyer. The MME moves quick, even the demos.

My local dealer turns the MME very quickly when they have the extended battery.

congrats and welcome to the club!

Glad you got your car, albeit not the exact one you ordered. I know you'll love it!

Similar story, I ordered my MME Premium AWD Extended 2/14 it was built in June but the ETA bounced to Halloween, then last week it changed to 9/4 and has shipped so we'll see. I'm in a different situation vehicle wise so can wait, it's just so frustrating with no updates or explanation or indeed any communication from a company happy to take nearly $60k of my money.

I think a lot of people with orders in limbo, who put in the extra effort have similar stories in that they found one that while maybe not the exact match, they could be happy with.

Wow, congrats on finding a low mileage demo model at an out-of-the-way dealer *and* on not paying ADM! I hope you enjoy your new MME!

Can’t believe we’ve gotten to the point that people are paying MSRP for a demo. But that’s actually a better deal than some others I’ve heard. At least you got your car - in a color that has now been discontinued! Enjoy!

I ordered mine on Feb 3rd and dealer accepted the order on Feb 5th and submitted it to Ford. I received my Rapid Red AWD Ext Battery in gray interior on July 26th. Earlier than the projected date of Aug 19th. I wonder why yours was delayed.

This week will mark 3 months since I ordered mine and neither I nor the dealer have heard anything......... Ford really needs to up their customer awareness protocol...if they even have one !

Judging by the other orders I've seen, you barely scraped by under the wire to get yours built and delivered on-time. I think I was in the 1st or 2nd day of delays. It also feels like they may have been clearing their backlog in reverse order when the parts became available, but they've potentially run out again? Who even knows. Oh wait, Ford does, yet they're not informing anyone of the reason behind the delay.

It's certainly not an ideal situation, and if I had a firm confirmation that my car is on the way I probably would have waited. I looked at a handful of cars available now on the lot and few of them were even close to the configuration I wanted, and the ones that were were $4-6K over MSRP. It's madness out there.

No doubt, and the area I live in is increasingly BEV-heavy, I see dozens of Teslas a day whereas when I lived on the west side of the metroplex I saw maybe 3-4 a week. I'm going to watch it when it gets delivered and see how quickly it goes.

I'm also looking at the same delivery date, but the VIN search does show 10/31 ETA End Date. Does yours? Mine is in KC.
