Have had my mach-e for a couple of weeks now without any OTA updates. Realize I should probably just be patient, but wondering if the way I charge it is part of the problem. I charge it at home when below 50% in garage on Chargepoint Homeflex during the day and unplug it when it stops after reaching 85%.
Car is off and unplugged overnight.
- Will it receive OTA updates anytime of day or night?
- Will they be over WiFi or cellular?
- Does it matter if car is off or on?
- Does it matter if it is unplugged?
- Will I miss out on OTA updates as a result?

- Will it receive OTA updates anytime of day or night? Yes, As long as it can communicate with Ford, it will attempt to update

- Will they be over WiFi or cellular? Both. Some updates will only work over wifi though. Not sure if it will tell you to connect to wifi to get an update or not if its needed since my car always is on wifi at home I haven't seen a notification. If its a smaller update it can download over cellular.

- Does it matter if car is off or on? No. If the car is running, it will download and hold the updates until it has a chance to update the module.

- Does it matter if it is unplugged? Shouldn't matter. The way the updates are being applied OTA, should be much faster than even a dealer can do it, which should not need the car to be on a charger during the update.

- Will I miss out on OTA updates as a result? No. Worst case you get a notification telling you there is an update pending.

Thanks! Will just check then that the car device is connected in the garage to wifi even when the car is off and unplugged.

Just checked and unsurprisingly the car device disconnects from wifi (as shown in my router login) when I lock it with the fob, and reconnects when I unlock it. Wondering then how it will get wifi ota updates in the garage?

There will be 2 different connections, One will be labeled as SYNC the other will be something similar to mdm9650-tcu. the TCU connection is the one that will actually download updates, and it will connect and disconnect quite a bit, usually just checking in or updating the car status with Ford Servers.

My car connects and disconnects a lot. Sometimes it is only on the network for a minute. I have also seen a 25 minute session. I didn't start watching this until after I had received 3 OTA updates so I'm not sure how long any of those took.
Just curious, why do you unplug your car when it is done charging? Are you having problems with charge scheduling? I plug mine in when I park it and it stays that way until I leave again. Thus far (knock on wood) it has only charged when it is supposed to and to the percentage I set. Preconditioning on plug is awesome using departure times. YMMV.

Just set the car for a scheduled charge time of 23 hours per day with an 85% limit and you can leave it plugged in. It won't hurt anything to have it on the charger. The car will manage itself. Plus then you can use pre-conditioning on cold or hot days.

Is that your router app or a third party? I can't find a data usage log in my router app. I just get notified when it connects and when it disconnects.

My whole network stack is Unifi equipment. It does decent logging but I can't dig in as granular as I'd like.

Long story, but I'm charging only in the daytime because our bedrooms are over the garage and the charging noise at 60 amp setting in Homeflex was too loud, and haven't taken it back to the dealer yet to get the TSB noise updates. I dropped the setting to 50 amps and it is quieter, but haven't had a good reason to charge overnight yet. Don't have TOU cost incentive with Eversource in MA and am retired so no reason for now to set specific departure times. Will want to do battery and cabin preconditioning when it gets into the winter, but so far hasn't been an issue. Would definitely need to leave it plugged in then. Was wondering though whether to wait for OTA updates to fix the noise issue without the dealer TSB, which led to the questions on whether wifi updates would work in the garage.

Just use the software in the charger to set it to only charge at night and leave it plugged in. I set mine to 32amps and it's fine.

With a 40 A charger on a 50 A circuit my car has never not been charged the next morning even when I plugged in at %2 remaining. And it had the cabin temp set to 68 F on a 109 F day when I was ready to drive.
