Why not take it for a spin and if you like it, buy it. Yeah there's a lot of buttons and whatnots. But how it looks online and in our minds may not match up well with how it feels in reality. Time will tell...

Why does an ICE car need start/stop? Why don't they start when the driver door is opened and stop when the car is parked and the driver exits?

You might be confusing some of my comments with those made by someone else. I never, for example, said anything about not wanting a built-in dashcam. I think that would be pretty cool. I was just trying to offer some observations about individual differences and it being nice that we have choices we can all like; not hurl implied insults like your rotary dial and gas tank digs. I might see where your thinking is going--is it silly to have a steering wheel, pedals, etc. if a car could drive itself? And, who wants the legacy stuff like a speedometer if the car can be programmed to always drive at or above/below the speed limit? Who wants that old Model T stuff like wheels, tires, and seats? We do agree that the car looks great and that motivates us to buy it. We just seem to have different preferences about what I consider convenience features and you consider features that hold the car back. I may be reading more into your comments than you intended to imply but I infer that you believe the way YOU want the car designed is the way that it SHOULD be designed even if others feel differently.

Huh? I stated that the car turns off when the driver puts it in park and exits the car. It's in park. It could turn off the engine as soon as the door begins to open. What if I don't "set the brake" before exiting my electric car? So far I'm failing to see the difference.

If the car doesn't start until the driver opens his door, gassing the owner seems to be highly unlikely. But I agree here that (most) manufacturers would prefer to be overly cautious rather than risk even one mishap.

What utter garbage this is. Tesla cars have become more energy efficient, more powerful, and capable with OTA updates.

Agreed, but a manual override would be important in case the interlock system (driver weight sensor or whatever) failed to shut it down.

My current car uses a gas combustion engine and has a start/stop button. If I park the car and forget to stop the engine, the car dings alarms when I open the door, honks if I exit the car and close the door, and turns off the ignition after something like 15 minutes if I still fail to intervene. There are several automatic safeties in place.

Because a horse and a car are completely different things. These aren't. They're both still CARS. Just with different drivetrains.

Just because it has a START button?? Really?

Because there are times when you want to turn the headlights on manually. And sometimes quickly, without fumbling through the screen menu while driving when your eyes are supposed to be on the road.

Because sometimes someone else needs to drive the car. And they need to manually adjust the mirrors.

Because again, you many not be the only one that drives the car. You're not going to spend 10 minutes setting up a full phone profile for your brother when he drives your car home for you, or the valet, or the auto mechanic.

It's sounding like you really want a Tesla, or some other futuristic car that's as anti-car as you can get. Sorry, that's not the Mach-e. It's still a car, with car features 99% of drivers can relate to. And I'm thankful for that because I wouldn't be very interested if they threw everything familiar to us about cars out the window just to be anti-car.

I turn the headlights on when it's foggy, when it's too light for the sensors to turn them on but it's difficult for other drivers to see each other.

And I don't want to take my eyes off the road to fumble through a damn set of menus off to the side when visibility is bad. Having a knob in easy reach is a GOOD thing. You can probably still change it on the screen too (I'm guessing), but ALSO having a direct access knob too is the best of both worlds.

When I remember, I turn them on just before entering a parking garage. They'll turn on by themselves, but I want them on sooner for safety.

I also toggle them off/on to alert other drivers who've forgotten to turn on their headlights.

I preferred my Honda that placed light controls on the left stalk. On my Ford, I have to reach down into that leftmost console area near the door jamb. It takes too long to get to it.

yes there are plenty of ways to warn a driver. What does the driver do if there isn’t a way to manually stop the engine when one of those plenty ways fails?

Automatic shutdown of a combustion engine is all well and good provided there is an override.
