We asked Ford at the LA show today how many Mach-E reservations had been made , and while they wouldn't say exactly how many they've received so far, they did share this:

Q: How are pre-order reservations going so far?

A: We’re almost sold out of the First Edition model -- it will probably be sold out within a week. There will soon be a message on the website saying limited First Edition models remain available. And we’re almost close to running out of our 2020 production units.

This is really cool and interesting. A couple of key takeaways for us on the forum:

1.) There may not be as much flexibility in reservations as some thought. If you reserved a certain trim level, and they will have most likely hit 2020 production numbers before the online builder is complete, you probably can't switch trim levels OR switching trim levels will push your delivery date out.

2.) It sounds like you may not be able to walk on the lot and buy one in 2020, unless they have a certain number slotted for reservations and a certain number slotted for dealerships. I remember reading that each dealer would receive one unit for test drives. Maybe that is the only guaranteed dealer allotment?

We do not want to pay more over MSRP! They should get rid of that whole system. We want to buy direct from ford.com.

Yup, dealers make the money from the service department so that is what they should become service centers. The whole sales team is obsolete in this day an age, every manufacture has a website with configurator I don't need to deal with an over priced middle man. BEVs have given manufactures the perfect opportunity to finally bring car purchasing into the 21st century.

Reminds me of the time when I purchased my Focus ST, first dealer I went to the sales man wanted to know why I wanted a focus and instead insisted that I should get a fusion. If I wanted a fusion I would have asked for one you muppet. Needless to say that dealer did not make a sale and they wonder why people can't be bothered with the whole process.

Glad I jumped on reserving a First Edition when I did!
Me as well. Wanted a Premium Extended range AWD anyway, and it's basically a premium with some accents but fewer color choices. My 18 5.0 isn't going anywhere so no need for the GT.

They can't legally charge you over MSRP. Typically, buyers enter a dealership on word of some "amazing deal" that is thousands below sticker only to find out they don't qualify for that advertised price.

So, Ford's objective for their new baby is that you enter the dealership with a set price (MSRP) in mind only to be potentially surprised by some new, lower price. And if there isn't any lower price and it is just MSRP - well you aren't upset with what you already expected.

Instead what you see on the window sticker is the MSRP and a dubious market adjustment for thousands. :(. Naturally it really does depend on where you are located but being in CA there really are and I am using a very large radius here two large population centers that is the bay area (I am including san jose in that) and los angles county and medium sized in san deigo so the large dealers in those regions hoover up all the allocations leaving very little choice and you end up having to scower the state looking for the small dealers that may have one or two allocations that treat all vehicles the same.

Ford are in the last chance saloon with the mach-e for me, as while Ford Europe will continue to sell vehicles I am interested in purchasing Ford USA at present seems intent on transforming into Isuzu so I no longer have the patience to put up with the BS run around of ADM and finding sensible dealers that I endured when getting the Focus RS. When making the reservation I was presented with a couple of dealers to choose from so it better be a painless process.

People are expecting more and more tech in cars, yet manufactures have to keep the prices in check, so have to resort to all sorts of bean counting and de contenting, both my Focus ST & RS are de contented compared to the European versions the ST a lot more than the RS, ST 3 trim lol more like ST 2.1 trim compared to what you got in Europe. Cutting out the pointless middle man would allow car manufactures to keep prices & expected features in check before de contenting

Only time will tell what the final purchase process will be like, thankfully the forum will allow people to share their experiences, lets hope everyone gets at pleasant one and we don't end up with a depressing thread of people that had to walk away due to price gouging :(

what is fascinating is that Ford USA just recently negotiated with the unions. after the negotiations they decided to make the Mach E in mexico so that they do not have to pay union wages. this explains why Mr. Ford CEO made the statement to the press that all companies lose money on electric cars but Ford will be profitable with everyone.

Your statement is incorrect. This has nothing to do with unions and wages and everything to do with tariffs. Mexico and Europe have a free trade agreement.
