The Cadillac Lyriq luxury electric crossover SUV will be debuted today via a livestream. Do you think Ford will give us any updates on Mach E to steal GM's thunder? Maybe a production status update? Or an update on the Performance GT variant? Please keep us entertained and let the EV crossover wars begin!

Should be interesting to watch and compare to the Mach E event.

The front end looks OK but the back half sucks for my tastes. Like so many new designs, it's shaped too much like a 1970's station wagon (minus the wood paneling).

will GM come out tonight and announce a 800V battery pack on this Caddy? After all, this brand is the top tier of the GM car/SUV division.

My guess is that its mostly for aerodynamics trying to guide the air back there instead of a flat back causing a vacuum and drag.

I think the front fender moving all the way forward for charging is a little gimmicky on the Lyriq. But, I'll be interested to see that displayed in action tonight. I wish Ford had been a little more creative with the charge port and had it operate similar to the Audi E-Tron or even better the Porsche Taycan with the finger swiping mechanism. But, I guess that charge port tech was too expensive for the Mach E price point? It's fun to have a little party trick, while not being too over the top. The Lyriq's full fender charge port could be over the top.

That's what I've read too. I just don't like the look of these slope-back wagons. Or the loss of utility from a taller, more vertical liftgate.

I'll make the trade-off on the sportier Mach-e, where the rest of the vehicle makes up for the lack of a taller back-end. But it's a rare exception on looks. Most of the rest just look like a vehicle crusher squashed down the back half and turned an SUV into a station wagon. They look frumpy to me.

2023 model year available end of 2022. Yeah, I'll take a hard pass on that. Kia's Imagine and Tesla so far are the only viable alternatives to the Mach-E right now.
Probably VW ID4 and Nissan Ariya may both be also available next year well before end of 2022

Volvo XC40 Recharge too, supposedly this year, although the lack of news on it lately is a bit disconcerting.
