Just got my XPEL installed on the Mach E today.
I did the whole front end and rocker panels. That included the mirrors.
And ended on the rear bumper just after wrapping around from behind the rear wheel.
I’ll take it outside and get better photos tomorrow.

What is the appeal of painting the calipers anyway? I never could figure that out as it is purely a cosmetic thing. I guess everyone is different in what they consider is beautiful with their cars. For me I will just leave my wheels alone in the “stock” appearance.
It is cosmetic, I live in MN and after this winter the rear calipers will have a nice coating of rust

Does painting them prevent rust? I know the discs can get a coating of rust but I didn’t think the caliper body housing did. It’s never happened to my other cars (Ford Fusion and Acura MDX) and one is a 2015 and the other a 2016.

Yes, powder coating the calipers prevents them from rusting. The wheels on my car are powder coated and have been through 4 winters they still look great. I have seen the rotors painted in a way to prevent/limit the rust. The rust on the calipers and rotors is not harmful just looks bad

Maybe I just didn't notice the rust on the calipers. We have bad winters here in Illinois also and they use a lot of road salt. The rust on the discs usually wears off when the brakes are used. I see this a lot when I wash the car or take it to be washed (I know that's sacrilegious but I'll have to take it there in the winter anyway). Is powder coating expensive? This is my daily drive car and not a show car like my 2002 Thunderbird was so it is going to show wear on it. We already have almost 4,000 miles on it and I've only had it since April.

Minnesota uses Calcium Chloride it melts snow real good and rusts cars real good too. To your point yes you could paint the calipers and it would be considerably cheaper it just won't last as long. I have done it before and it may last a season or two powder coat would last a long time.

I will clean and paint the rotors.

99% of the time the calipers will outlast the rest of the disc brake components.
Standard transmission (downshifting) lends itself to longer brake life (100k miles+)
The EV brake should last at least twice as long
The challenge with the EV is to remember to actually use the brakes on occasion - regen may combine with brakes to keep some of the dust off (you don't use it , you lose it)

And you won’t notice any rust, Brembo Flexiera calipers are aluminum. Over time, unpainted calipers will develop a gray crusty finish.

Well that explains it. Thanks.

My Grandson who is using the Ford Fusion texted me and asked if he could have his friend's father (who is a mechanic) paint the calipers. He has red Rustoleum paint. I told him it was alright to do them but that I had read the paint job doesn't last (previous post). What is powder coating and how expensive is that? I would consider powder coating if it isn't too much in cost but otherwise plain paint.

Mine was built on July 16, waited for chips and arrived at the dealer on Thursday Sept 2nd. Guessing it was about the last IB but no way of knowing ?
Hey IB MME team,
I'm across in the UK and went into my local Ford dealer about 6 weeks ago. A fresh order was a 26 week delivery. They have a small number of "stock" cars coming in before the end of the year so I opted for either a Rapid Red or Infinite Blue. I get my IB on Saturday. Perhaps this is the last one off the line !!!
Be interesting to see when it was built. Will let you know once I do.

Glenn

Has anyone tried using the Ford Touch Up paint yet? I bought it from my dealership and did a test on some paper. Previous ford touch up paints have been thick like nail polish, this seemed more watery though. Like it might drip down if I applied it to a vertical surface. I’m curious if I just got a bad bottle, or if this is normal.

Stupid and obvious question: Did you shake it before trying it out?
