Picked up my new AWD X tonight. I told the dealer If they cannot get the adhesives off scratch free, I would do it.

Well, I have shipping film and sticker adhesive everywhere. Before I wash and ceramic coat tomorrow, anyone have some recommendations for a Paint safe product…..rubbing alcohol, 3M adhesive remover, mineral spirits, Good old gasoline….

Let me know what is tried and true and will not hurt the Mach E Paint and black trim.

Thanks in advance.

Sticker Manufacturer here….

There are a few tricks. Rubbing alcohol should do just fine. Stay away from anything more chemically abrasive than that. Most of these adhesives are standard acrylic. Also heatinup the adhesive can loosen it. Especially if it’s rubber based. 130 degrees is more than enough. Sadly most car companies cheap out in their labels and buy them overseas and they use low quality crap when they should be using removable adhesives with synthetic face sheet materials.

Cannot imagine how dealer would scratch the car removing stickers.

Funny! Yes my Select drivers rear window has many light razor blade scratches on the glass Exactly where the stickers were. The rear window has a few too. I have looked at a few other Mach E’s on dealer lots locally with the same. They must use broken razor blades to scrape them off.

This time I would rather put the effort in and do it right. Thankfully, I have had zero body scratches.

I believe dealers can scratch cars just by looking at them.
My youngest son did dealer prep for about 1 year While “finding his way” after a very failed and expensive Engineeing degree attempt.

He worked for a Chrysler/Jeep/Buick/GMC dealer. He truly cared and was super careful Taking real pride in prepping all cars. Beleive it or not, he quit that job he loved as his boss would no longer let him use a pressure washer (his own that he bought and brought in). He used a foam cannon on cars to make sure they were scratch free when washing. They only wanted him to use a brush and bucket.

He gives me a lot of advise. He made a 13 F150 with 235000 miles, I bought him, glow better than a new one.

He will not let me wash a new car with a wash brush anymore due to “superfine swirl marks”. “Dad, you messed up your Hyundai, don’t mess up your Mach E“. I have to use special washes, waxes and only microfiber‘s can “touch“ the car. He uses a foam cannon but I have not used it yet. He’s a ”Chemical guys” person, I use Turtle Wax Hybrid products.

I am so thankful he “found his way” and is attending Electricians school nights and will become a journeyman all while working as a helper. He ordered his Own Ford Maverick Hybrid a few weeks back. (No dealer prep, he wants it off the Truck in the wrapper). His meticulousness will help him become a great electrician (and upgrade me by installing my new Free Ford connected 48 amp charger currently in the box the back of the car) very Soon.

Happy thanksgiving.

Rubbing alcohol on paint. 3m adhesive on glass. Scratch free! That “pearl” is amazing! First time seeing it in the sun…… I have only seen “Star White” at my local dealer and it was nice but not for me…..and I bought this at night……

Great pics. On my Mach-E, part of that rubber black trim above one of the windows has a bit of adhesive left over on it. Did you use rubbing alcohol to get rid of that?

I always assumed you didn’t want to get rubbing alcohol anywhere near the exterior of a car, but clearly this thread is saying otherwise.

IPA is a staple in a detailers arsenal. You need to dilute it down though and avoid rubber and black plastic with it.

Thanks - what do you use to get rid of adhesive left on the rubber around the windows, if you know, if IPA is not, in fact, safe for that part of the exterior?

My dealer put multiple cuts in the paint on my current car when removing the previous dealership sticker. They used a razor blade and were apparently not very good at it.

My favorite paint/rubber safe APC which is Optimum Power Clean.
