People so quickly forget the that reason they didn’t have to pay sticker or got a good deal on their last car is the negotiating (buyer’s) power that the dealership model gives consumers. Have you tried negotiating with Tesla in the past?
Hmm I suspect that manufacturers pushing a lot of inventory onto dealer lots historically has had a lot to do with this. One of the lessons learned by manufacturers during Covid has been to not build cars on spec because having hundreds of cars in inventory at each dealer leads to mfg discounts and low profits.

It's all fine and dandy if an OEM like Tesla changes prices 5 times a week and plays hide and seek with options and paint colors. As Musk says, everyone pays the same price (at a given time & place, for a specific car may be).

If a dealer offers discount to move cars, that's fine too; it's his duty.
But if he ever marks up because there is more demand than supply, he deserves to be hanged, per Tesla acolytes.
thing is tho, tesla hasn't had any real competition in the ev sphere. The consistently bad ratings in terms of build quality may hurt them. Now we have Ford, VW/Audi, Kia, Hyundai and others getting into the ev sector in a big way. Next few years will be interesting.

The economics make sense, right now, because Ford isn’t worried about Tesla stealing their sales. Losing out on some Mach-E sales isn’t ideal for Ford but surely they make it up on the back end. They’ve been selling Raptors, certain Mustangs, and other vehicles at well over MSRP for years now, and customers keep coming back for more. They can do that with niche vehicles like that, which is what the Mach-E is right now.

Consider the source. Clean Technica is citing an article in Teslarati (far from an unbiased source) who cites a Reddit Post in a Tesla Subreddit, but shows no evidence. Now the original post has been deleted by the OP. I'm not sure this ever really happened.
Thank you. I’ve called this out in other places - this is ridiculous “reporting”

The original post stated one thing - but play a game of telephone and BOOM “Ford Exec”

The Silver lining is there are many dealers still selling at MSRP. You just have to find them. There are several in Maine and at least 6 between me and the closest Tesla dealer so far away in Peabody MA, 200 plus miles away. If anyone’s looking they are Darlings Ford Bangor and Brunswick, Arundel Ford, Rowe Ford Westbrook, Quirk Ford Belfast. Varney Ford Newport plus many others I did not check into.

Rowe has or had a grabber blue GT non perf. with Tech and glass on order and in production, not spoken for. They sold a black GT base before I could confirm my Select was sold. I wanted Blue Cruse though.

I'm glad he is calling this out. Ford Reps would never tell someone to buy a Tesla if they dont like the Market Adjustment. Where do people come up with this stuff? I'm almost positive a sales manager or salesman would tell a customer that they will take the Market Adjustment off instead of telling them "Well, this car is in demand, if you don't want to pay the market adjustment then you can order one or go buy a Tesla"

Mike Levine is tweeting about this. Calling out the post as an anonymous Reddit post with no journalistic credibility.

Exactly. At worst, the dealer would tell the customer that they could order one at MSRP and wait several months for delivery, which appears to be what many dealers are doing.

You can’t order them in the US. I called a few dealers until I found one that had one inbound with what I was looking for. I put a deposit on it and picked it up when it arrived 3 weeks later. It wasn’t all that difficult.

Yes, a lot of dealers have waiting lists, but 2 years is just crazy talk.
That's anecdote evidence. I bought a Mach-E Premium (not Select) with no markup two weeks ago. See, why can't everybody else do that?

I'm trying to get a RAV4 Prime as a second car and these dealers are a pain. $5K markup minimum. If any lower they are adding $2K-$3K in add-ons and have a $900 prep fee and a $900 doc fee (I think these are not capped in FL). I found all inbound Primes in the next three weeks and contacted all dealers...

https://explore.setbuyatoyota.com/r...eries=rav4prime&sortby=msrp&sortdirection=asc

Same situation as when I tried back in Sept. It was probably worse then because they did not have XSE trims and the OTD price for a base SE was $55K. That's like paying $57K OTD for Select AWD.

The difference if you'll never get that ADM back EVER. On Teslas you will get that increase in MSRP back if you decide to trade in or sell. If Ford raises MSRP, that dealer ADM will still be there and you'll be $20k in the whole for depreciation.
Hah, Tesla marks up the car $10k for a piece of software that is currently vaporware. Hard to believe that anyone gets a return on that investment. I'm surprised that no one in California has sued Tesla as it violates the law to charge for things that aren't delivered.

Only an idiot would pay $10K for software that is in Beta. That's $10k however is irrelevant to MSRP. Much like getting the extra add-on's that dealers like to put on their vehicles. You'll never get that money back.

Dealers are generally scum. Mine screwed me on the X-plan Doc fee limit, then tried to "unwind" my deal. Of course he did! That would be a juicy ADM for him to screw someone else. They also tried to charge me some $350 BS added service in the time it arrived Saturday night and I picked it up Monday. Blatant thievery. I am lighting up Ford with complaints.

Unfortunately, right now markup is on everything. If you go on Youtube, you'll see it's not a Ford issue, it's a general dealership issue. Some Toyota dealerships are marking up their cars 100%. Yes you read right 100%. A Rav 4 prime was selling for 90K$ at one dealer with all kind of added mandatory "accessories". There is currently a 2 year wait for a RAV 4 prime, so if you want get ready to pay. Tesla is also having issues. They just increased pricing and are telling all their customers that order one, if you don't pick it up in 30 days we will cancel your order. (Before customers could delay pick up without losing their car)

Ford probably wants to get away from the dealership model but their hands are tied. Once the dealer owns the car, their is not much they can do.

Edit: Dont get me started on video cards and video game consoles.

You are right!! Lots of mark up. MSRP is the new invoice pricing which I am ok with but I will only pay Additional dealer markup for certain cars. You can still get cars at MSRP but it’s harder to find.
I am a model 3 owner that wants to go mach e but there is only two things stopping me from making the transition. 1. Wait times for the ordered mach e. 2. Dealer inexperience in regards to service and sales that will improve over time. Other than this I love the car and what you get for the money.
