I've always used this method with no problem.....

Lower it closed and then apply some pressure, push it closed.
And then look at it from straight on and see one time you pushed just a hair too hard and now have a dent in your hood.

My C8 doesnā€™t have a power frunk and itā€™s not a problem in the least. How did Ford screw up a simple closure mechanism?

I'd be weary of electrical closers.
<SNIP>
Also, there is no hard capture unless you install a closure/lock system. One thing we don't want is for a worn system in a 20 year old Mach E failing and breaking the windshield with the Frunk lid at 75mph.
<SNIP>
I'm pretty sure I hear the catch decoupling before my power lift gate rises. I am pretty sure the F150 Lightning's power frunk lid has a double-catch in addition to the power open/close feature since the Feds require a double catch on hoods/bonnets/whatever you want to call them. ??

That said, I don't necessarily need a power frunk lid. The mechanical release works just fine for me, although I would prefer to be able to open/close the frunk remotely (mostly to show off, truth be told). ??

I'm not so sure it's the mechanism that's the problem. The frunk lid closes super-easy when one or more of the beauty panels is missing. It seems to me to be an air pressure issue. I don't really have a problem closing my frunk lid with the beauty panels installed, but it's amazingly easier with one or more panels missing. ??

On top of that, the frunk has those springs or whatever to make it easily lift and stay lifted without support when opening. That makes it harder to close when you are trying to get the frunk lid to go the other way.

I don't use my Frunk for the exact reason, its not convenient.

If it had an electric release button, or a way to remotely open it I would use it WAY more. As of right now, I keep my range bag in there. Its good for storing, its not good for every day usage.

Never knew how interesting the frunk closing could be. Wow. ?

Well that doesnā€™t work on mine. I had to reopen and whip it closed. It actually catches and latches fine, but only when I really slam it down (but let go before contact). Trying to just press it closed was an exercise in futility for me.

So all you need to do is connect the Ford Pass app. The remote frunk release is right in there. Iā€™d imagine they will add a button to the UI in the car too. Hell it may already be there like the app button.

Itā€™s not in FordPass yet for Job 1 cars. If your car has it in the app, you should also have it on the Access screen in the car.

There's a lever at the driver's side footwell like any other car. Remote opening from outside the car is the issue.

I'm pretty sure an electric liftgate for the frunk could be combined with an electrically-activated mechanical latch (with manual override) to prevent accidental "deployment" of frunk at highway speeds. If Tesla can engineer power-folding gullwing doors that avoid hitting a ceiling of a garage, I'm sure Ford can engineer a power-operated frunk.

I don't think anyone in the automotive industry wants to be given the statement of "if Tesla can make power-folding gullwing doors..." anything. They have been an engineering nightmare from the start, a warranty disaster, and still to this day so not live up to the hype. Even Elon admitted they shouldn't have included them

I prioritize using the frunk because itā€™s so much easier to pull the lever when I get out of the car than flailing my leg like an idiot trying to get the trunk to open. Itā€™s also way more secure, theft-wise and in regards to rolling around the car. Also, if Iā€™m picking up food it prevents getting the car all smelly. Oh yea, and the cool factor - I love when people freak out as I put my carry out / briefcase ā€œin the engineā€ lol
