I have always been amazed at people on Forums that suggest that a thread should be closed because they are tired of reading it.

I have a simple solution.

Don't read the thread and simply "Let It Be"

I agree, I am totally messing with you guys, as you say all I have to do is move on and let it be! ;)

Everyone has their own comfort zone, and many dealers will try their best to mislead or fool their customers. If the admins lock the thread then the issue is closed. If others talking about it bother you you can take a little breather from this one, but I appreciate everything you and others have added here so it will be great if you stick it out and continue to help.

We all have different thresholds for being comfortable with this. Everyone should be talking to their dealer, preferably in writing. If this thread can help then its one of the most valuable on the forum so far.
I was just trying to insert a little levity into something that is worrying some so much. ;)

I've also been affected by this, took a while but the $2k increase has showed up both on the window sticker and on the reservation webpage this week.

Ford is offering price protection but I foresee two major issues with this that will cause headaches for us. It relies on:
  1. The dealer is knowledgable enough to know how to apply for price protection reimbursement in their system.
  2. They are actually willing to pass the $2k savings on you rather than keeping it for themselves.
With the current ethical status of most dealerships, #2 is a major concern without a way for us to verify or track if the incentive has been disbursed. #2 is fraud, but that doesn't stop a lot of dealerships because they only care about legalities if they are able to be caught. How can we fight this? Ford, why haven't you sent out an email about this price increase to us, or notifying us that price protection is available for pre-Dec orders? There's been nothing. This may be my last Ford, since Ford corporate doesn't seem to care about their customers being overcharged when they certainly have the power to do something more than they have been. Price protection could be automatically applied to all eligible vehicles or we could be given an incentive code to bring to the dealer.

I am sure there is some type of price protection on Ford's side. I went through the same thing when I ordered my 2021 Corvette. The Corvette took 9 months from order to delivery and in that time the MSRP went up. The MSRP that came on my car was the new higher price but since the car was ordered before the price increase the selling dealer charged me the original MSRP and then had to apply with GM for the price difference from their higher invoice price (which I was told takes a month or so for the dealer to get credited back for the difference).

The same stories happened with the Corvette. Some dealers honored the original price and applied for the price correction and other dealers said too bad, so sad, take it or leave it. Unfortunately it will really come down to what your dealer is willing to do for you. I am sure there will be some that say we will go the rebate route and charge you the MSRP in effect when you ordered the car and I am also sure there will be others who will say too bad, so sad, (and then apply for the rebate on price too because they know they can). I am sure Ford corporate will say all of this is between you and your dealer. They may try to contact them and ask for you, but if the dealer responds that they will be charging the higher price I do not see Ford stepping in to do anything about it.

Was there talk on the ā€˜vette forum of folks having signed agreements showing the earlier MSRP and dealers honoring that despite those people seeing the price go up on their accounts and/or invoices/stickers (not sure what the right word is here)?

Based on that number and your location, I'm assuming this is SanTan Ford?

I finally got in contact with my rep there, he explained the $1,299 is the desert protection package (tint, guards, etc.) and said I could decline it per a discussion we had previously. My assumption is that it showed up due to a change in the system (previous orders through them showed $0 whereas new orders now show $1,299, so it updated all prior reservations as well). Also said that I was grandfathered into the $699 price instead of $1,299 if I chose to have it done.

That's all to say that it shouldn't be a problem, if you're to believe what they say. I accepted it for now and will make sure to remind him of the discussion and our email when it's time for delivery.
You're exactly right. I haven't talked to them yet. Do you have a production date yet? Have you had any conversation about price protection?

exact same threads except put Mach E in place of C8. Again, some dealers honored the original MSRP and others did not.

Love the C8, almost got one (too impractical in the end). But to be clear, are you saying even people with signed agreements showing the original lower price ended up having to pay the higher price? Many here have stated that that is unlikely to happen.

GM doesnā€™t have an online order form showing the pricing at the time of order like Ford does for the MME. Some got the dealer to send emails saying it will be MSRP, and others got the print out of their configuration at the time of ordering with pricing signed by the dealer.

In the end it all came down to what the dealer wanted to do at the time of delivery. There were even people who worked at dealerships that explained step by step how the dealer could apply for the credit for price protection after the car was delivered. Some dealers said no problem and others said here is the current MSRP take it or leave it.

I Know a lot of people here talk about suing and going other routes to try make them honor the agreement, but the only thing I saw with the C8 were people taking to social media explaining the injustice. I never saw one dealer cave to that however, nor did I hear of any lawsuits filed over it.

I think a lot here are making a mountain out of a molehill. I am sure there will be a lot of dealers who will honor the original pricing agreements and I am sure there will be a few dealers who donā€˜t. It is very much like some owners here have been having problems with their 12V battery where most of the other owners have not. In the end I think the same will apply here. There will be a few customers who are greatly disappointed by their dealer and there will be a lot more customers who will be happy with their dealer when it comes to honoring the original MSRP.

I do not have a production date yet. Ordered on the first day of MY22 availability, 10/1. My rep said that he vaguely remembered seeing an email regarding price protection but he would have to look into it - told him I was more concerned with the $1,299 ADM than the MSRP increase.

I have an email from him dating back to October where he said no ADM, they would take X-Plan, and I would not have to pay for any add-ons that I don't want, so I'm fairly comfortable with his response on the phone re: the $1,299

Yep. Ordered a GT (non-PE) on 10/8. I just got my window sticker (my build is imminent), and it shows a ~$2000 price increase. My dealer is checking but believes it likely that Ford will provide the dealer with purchase price relief so I pay what I signed to pay. {Jonathan}
Any update. I have the same issue and took your advise and went to the same dealer. Interested to hear what happened.

Correct. I would hope most dealers would be upfront and transparent with this process. My fear is that dealers will deny the customer the lower price and use this process to increase their profit by the amount of the price increase. Just know if it happens, that is the dealer doing it and not Ford.

Unfortunately, Ford has very little power to get involved with pricing to the consumer since the franchise laws protect the dealer.

BTW, once you have a window sticker, the dealer has the invoice.
Thanks so much for providing all the information. Gives me something to go to when I'm at the dealer. Do you know if the price protection is just the $750 or if it's the full $2000 increase? Also, because I live in NYC I qualify for an additional regional discount. Will the price protection stack with this? Or do I have to choose one or the other?

Price protection is so you get the original price of your order as a 2022 model...whatever that 2022 price was in October when the dealer confirmed you for the 2022. The 750 is a separate bonus because you ordered a 2021 and they couldn't deliver that.

Yes, the price protection should work with any other ā€œgreenā€ incentive offered by your local government.
The $750 is different than price protection. Price protection will be an adjustment to your sale price which in effect lowers the amount of tax you will pay on the vehicle.

The $750 is what Ford refers to as a ā€œPCOā€, which simply stands for Private Cash Offer. This is a rebate and will be deducted on the rebate line. In most states that is after tax.

So in short, you get both. The $2000 is the price protection and the $750 is a PCO.

Interestingly, if you can find a Mach-E (or most other models) and buy off of the lot, the $750 goes to $2,000.
