Hi, I searched the forum & couldn’t find this topic discussed anywhere.
Took delivery of my ‘21 MME GT 3 weeks ago on January 3. Since the drive home from the dealer, we’ve had an ongoing issue; we’ll be driving along with the cruise control set, and all of a sudden, the cruise resets itself to 85 mph. It’s quite disturbing when you’re merrily driving along and the car decides to jackrabbit on its own. Any ideas as to what’s going on?

The vehicle read a speed limit sign, or misread a sign, or thought it read a sign that wasn't a sign.

Turn off the speed limit recognition function in your Cruise Control settings via the center screen.

Turn off the speed limit recognition function in your Cruise Control settings via the center screen.
So it’s always misreading the sign as 85 mph? This has happened numerous times, with straight roads, curves, 4 lane highways, 2 lane roads, etc.

Just a theory. My car hasn't ever done this, but I turned off speed limit sign reading on day 2.

You could try turning it off and see how it goes for several days. Maybe this will solve your concern.

Appreciate the advice. I’ll try it & see if it helps. If it doesn’t help, I‘m thinking of having the thing exorcised. It appears the vehicle is a whole lot smarter than I am.

Yes. had the same thing happen to me and it took a while to figure out... You probably have a speed tolerance level set in intelligent cruise control at 20 MPH over speed limit. When speed limit changes, it takes you to 20 over. Switch to adaptive cruise and the problem will stop or change the tolerance to a more acceptable level for your driving if you want to stay with intelligent.

And read your manual. You can download it in PDF format from the owner.ford.com site, and put it on every device you have. Then read it cover to cover. Then take it into your new vehicle, and go through every single setting in there to at least understand them, and in cases like this - to remove the 20 over (or 15 over), and potentially to turn off the speed limit sign recognition.

Another "do this right away" might be to restrict the rear hatch from opening to its full capacity, because it can hit things (1/2 dozen or more with damage posted).

I've had my explorer do that to me a few red where it reads US 85 highway as the speed limit.

I’ll do this today. Thank you. Once again, the vehicle’s intelligence level is higher than mine. Maybe I should have bought a Yugo ???‍♀

My car did this too when set on intelligent cruise control. It seems have particular difficulty with the changeable speed limit sighs in Virginia when they are in lanes other than yours. I’ve had my car launch into high gear a couple times and it is indeed unsettling. (I think it’s picking up the artifacts on the first 5 and interpreting it as an 8.)

turn off intelligent cruise control and go back to adaptive cruise control and the problem goes away.

My car misreads the same 55mph sign as 85mph every time, I wonder if it’ll hold up in court… I have intelligent cruise control turned off but you can still see what speed the car picks up in the dash.

There are two spots in my city where this happens.
It’s 100% repeatable. One location in a 35 will jump to 70, another in a 30 drops to 20. There are no road signs (or other signs) of any kind where this happens.
There‘s more going on than just mis-reading signs.

That indicates that the map data has bad speed limit info at that area. It uses map speed limit data as well as the cameras for this feature.

Mine dropped to 55 enough times for me to eventually turn it off. In some cases it was in the same spot and there were no signs around. In other cases, there was a "55 for trucks and cars with trailers" sign.
