I just bought the $4 membership from EA ahead of a long trip this weekend. Do I have to disable P&C in the car? Or can I just swipe the phone before I plug?
This is crazy. P&C should be easier not some labyrinth of read tape! It benefits the charging companies and Ford if is easier for the customers. Get your acts together @Ford Motor Company and #ElecifyAmerica (note they aren't on here)!
You do *SHOULD* not need to disable P&C to use the EA membership rate. Just always activate the charger through he app before plugging in. If you plug in first P&C will start activating immediately. If you activate first, that whole part of the handshake is skipped.

*edited to add should, as apparently this doesn't always work like its supposed to*

I recommend you disable P&C. I had a case where I activated the charger using the EA app but was still charged in FordPass for the higher rate. I made sure to turn off P&C after that and will leave it off util my current month of EA Pass+ expires.

Yes, if I understand it correctly, if you wish to use EA directly, you need to disable P&C.

I have only used EA directly once (because I broke P&C) and personally I hate having to deposit money before using. I prefer getting billed for actual use, not depositing money into an account before using it..

* Edit I stand corrected, see above responses from not knowledgeable people..

Interesting. I've never disabled P&C and used the EA app directly quite a bit over the summer with no issues.

Maybe something with EA has changed since I've last tried. Just looked and its been since June that I've used EA directly in their app. After I ran out of my free EA charging, I have used the app to activate just because skipping the P&C handshake cuts almost a minute off starting a charge.

The big problem is it depends on the charger. The ABB and SIGNET units have different programming. Some clearly initiate when the app is used to start a charge. Some are not so clear and still try to do the handshake. When weather is bad and you really don't want to be standing around outside, that confusion in instructions probably contributes to the problem.

I'd rather be safe than sorry (again).

Still no luck getting the discounted rate. Tried plug and charge and got $0.43, disconnected and started via app, still $0.43.

Although in the app it shows the $0.31 rate.

I made another thread about this issue without realizing it was already being discussed here! I spent 45 minutes on hold get transferred all over ford until someone could answer (sort of) my question on this issue. They stated ford is aware that some vin's do not get the discounted rate and are working on resolution. The rep would not state if we would get a refund/credit/extension of membership and could only say that if/when they have resolution they will let me know what it is via email. Really not a helpful answer at all, but it seems it's not on our end but rather ford's end. My guess is in 2023 we finally get some sort of resolution to this, and maybe if we are really lucky a frunk button by 2024.

So it sounds like nobody has gotten the discount rate to work with Plug&Charge, right? We embark on another road trip Saturday and was hoping this would be working by then. Ugh.

I would be happy if Ford simply changed this whole thing to a monthly credit to our BOCN accounts. Let them charge us the standard $0.43 rate when we charge the car, debited against our accounts, but run a routine monthly that reviews our charge activity and issues a 25% credit to our account for the qualifying charges. Then they don't have to worry about all the technicalities of changing the rate on the charger for every session. It's all simply within the BOCN accounts that way, within Ford's own universe. Much simpler and more foolproof.

Would also make it easy for them to expand the discount plan to other charge networks beyond EA.

You can use the BOCN to charge any EV using the app.
Have you done this? I tried this with my Bolt and it would not work. Maybe it would work if I disable P&C in the Fordpass app, but I haven't tried that yet.

When I tried it, the EA station came back with a P&C error message, it was still looking for the P&C handshake, even though I activated the charger first using the Fordpass app before plugging in.

Also, I spent time on the phone with EA support about not even being able to charge my Bolt. EA recognizes the Fordpass app when you are near the chargers, which messes things up. So I had to swipe the EA app before plugging in my Bolt to get it to charge. But that same technique did not work with the Fordpass app.

Yes, actually someone else used their BOCN free miles to charge my Mach E using this method.

I assume P&C was disabled.
I have done it both ways but it is much safer when P&C is disabled. I have also accidentally charged my P&C even though the charger looked like the charging session had been initiated on the app.

So it's been a month since "successful" sign up. Still haven't gotten this to work. Neither plug and charge nor starting from the app works yet.

Even though the app shows the reduced rate, when I start, it still charges the $0.43 rate.

I'd try to cancel it but even when I call the number on the credit card bill, try don't have a clue about the program at all. I'm worried they'd cancel the free subscription and still not refund the $50.

Yeah, they weren't helpful for me either. They did refund me one charging session, but still less than the $50 I paid and less than the 25% savings I signed up for.
