Also remember that there's a 30% (US) federal tax credit if you buy it before the end of 2020.

https://envirocenter.org/ev-charging-tax-credits-explained/

Also take note of the plug type of the charger you get (or if it's hardwired). Best to get the charger first so your electrician knows what to install.

Note too that the Mach-E comes with a 32A charger with a 14-50 plug.

Do you use 3 or 4 conductor wire?
My installation has four 3 awg wires. Three wires come from the double pole 50 amp breaker L1, L2, (two loads each carrying one 120v leg) and neutral. The fourth wire is from the panel ground bus.

I thought 4 or 6 awg was sufficient

6AWG would suffice for most 50A installations (for a 40A EVSE), depending on distance from the panel, and 4AWG for a 60A installation (for a 48A EVSE like the Ford Connected Charge Station), again depending on distance.

You can certainly use much thicker gauge wiring, usually to "future-proof" the install, if you'd like.

IF it's a long distance, would the wire get thicker or thinner?

Thicker (lower gauge wire). It would have to be somewhere around 160-170 feet from the main panel to need larger wire though, I believe (for a 50A circuit).

The MME will be our first EV. I'm going to ask a friend to add a 40A circuit to our home so I'll be set at our primary residence when our Premium ER arrives.

We're getting ready to sign a contract to build a second home in the southwest valley in Phoenix. As this is NOT a custom home, the builder only offers 30A and 50A circuit.

Will I be able to use the charger the comes with the vehicle if I opt for the 50A circuit? Does the NEMA 14-50 support the 50A circuit? I realize that I could buy another charger but I don't anticipate the need for slightly faster charging.

Appreciate the advice offered by the resident experts here !

The 50 in the Nema 14-50 is for 50 Amp max circuit capability, meaning you can draw 80% of it or 40 Amp and yes you will be able to plug and use the Ford Mobile charger up to 32 Amp easy on Nema 14-50 installed plug on a 50 Amp circuit in the garage or outside your new second house, or if you have a Nema 14-50 charger in your other house you could also bring that too, that's why they sometimes being referred too has portable charger.

My circuit that I just put in (see above) is a 50 amp circuit. My Grizzl E is a 40 amp charger. Everything I have understood, the included charger can plug into a 50 amp circuit as long as it is the correct outlet.

Thanks John/Claude for the feedback !

I'm looking forward to the road trip from suburban Chicago to Phoenix sometime in summer/fall 2021. EA finally plugged the gap between Amarillo and Albuquerque so we'll have 2 choices for routes. Route planning should work just fine as long as the EA locations are reliable and remain online unlike what we just saw on the East Coast recently.
