Wait, do we have the same dealer?
I don't know, but this dealer is going to feel stupid when he finds out he was the reason I cancelled my order and purchased a Tesla. This happened to me before when an Audi dealer was absolute garbage. I was ready to make a purchase, and because of him, I went in another direction.

@Kamuelaflyer : With all that said, I'm still heavily leaning towards MME. I keep watching Model Y videos, and while it seems they've fixed a lot of quality issues lately, the Mach-E's styling, quality (assumed), and tech features keep bringing me back.

My primary complaints about Tesla:

1. They have no supercharger stations out here. That's a distinction shared with a handful of other locations. That takes away some of the advantage they have on the mainland. Your mileage will vary.

2. Other than the Model S I hate the way the cars look. And to me, the Model S is showing its design age. Again, highly personal.

3. Model 3's are as common as strawberry guava out here , or so it seems. (Strawberry gauva is an invasive plant btw). Model Y's not so much. Model X's are seen reasonably regularly and Model S's, I know of 3 among my acquatences. There will be less than 8 MME's on island, for awhile anyway. (that's as close of an answer as I got from the dealer on the subject).

I'd personally be rather careful about the a Tesla when taking delivery to check that the quality is really in line with where it should be (figuratively and literally).

But honestly, there's no right answer about which car to buy. What works for one person, is ghastly for another. If a model Y is the best for someone, they should get it.

For me it's the MME. If something happened (Ford saying "November Fool! Got you all!") where I can't get the car, I'd not be looking for another vehicle. But that's just me.

I tend to agree with all your points....I live in the DC area and there are plenty of supercharging stations around here. Moot point for me though since I'd be charging at home and would rarely need a fast charging solution. Also, if I don't hear more about the status of the build/order (FE through the mach drop program) by late October, I'm cancelling. I want/need a new car by Christmas.

So everyone must charge at home there then? Or do they use ChadEmo (sp?) adapters? Or is there really no need for DCFC?

There are no Superchargers in the entire state. 90% of the population is on Oahu (Honolulu County) so it'd make sense to have a couple there (north Shore/Haleiwa and maybe dowtownish/near the Aloha Tower perhaps?) There's been a single Supercharger planned and in the "coming soon" status for about 4 years. Out near Pearl City IIRC. Pearl City is the town near Pearl Harbor which has a huge shipyard and a very large civilian workforce, so that sort of makes sense, but none near downtown where the financial center is. *shrug* None on the other islands are even planned any longer, at least publicly.

Those I know with Tesla's on Hawaii Island charge at home and also bring the Chademo adapters for the 5-50 kW CCS/Chademo DCFC on this island. 2 of the 5 DCFC are at locations you'd probably want to stop at when ferrying relatives around on an island tour and one is near the Kamuela "shopping district" (I actually literally just came from there. The DCFC is next to my preferred grocery store). The other two are 24/7 but at the local utility company offices in Kona and Hilo, yeah I'm not lingering there. ;)

Honestly, though, the full circle island is about 230 miles if you're actually driving the whole thing at once (Usually there's an overnight stay in Volcano Village next to Kilauea). 2/3's of the belt highway is a sparsely traveled 2-lane rural road until close to Kona or Hilo, so speeds will vary from "I didn't know anyone could actually drive that slow and still move" to "watch out for the speed trap in 5 miles." This, of course, would never apply to anyone on this forum as we always obey all speed and traffic laws.

Hope to visit someday. Thanks for the info.
