Ford Connected Charging Station is hardwire only. This is an older pre-COVID form so the dates are off, but the specs are the same.

Thanks. That makes sense because a 48Amp EVSE needs a 60Amp breaker and those historically are hardwired, not connected to a 14-50 outlet. I'm looking more at the ChargePoint EVSV on Amazon not just because it is $100 cheaper but being able to unplug and haul around is appealing although I won't do that often.

I am using a 14-50 outlet to start. However, the wire and breaker are at 60 amp - this way I can hard wire the Connected Charger (or some third party) later (just remove 14-50 outlet and hard wire into the correctly sized wire) if the 21 mile per hour charge I get through the mobile charger is not sufficient.

The Q&A system is really working. That was my question: “Come on guys. How’s that B&O sound system”?

You are conflating 2 different things. There is a plugin level 2 AC charger that comes with the car for home charging. There is a hardwired level 2 AC home charger for $800 that chargers at home faster than the free one.

The Ford charging network is for on-the-road charging when you're away from home. Essentially there is a group of companies offering level 3 (DC fast charging), and normally you'd have to have an account with each of them to use their chargers. The "ford pass" network is simply a bundling service: you have one ford account that lets you use level 3 chargers from any of those companies on the road, and you don't have to have a direct membership with them. Ford is essentially acting as a broker for you; you pay 1 bill from ford and have 1 account, but get to use anyone's chargers. That privilege is free for 2 years, after that you'll have to pay a fee to ford for them to be your broker
Wonder if that will be offer in Canada? Couldn't find any info on that.

They also picked up a key question lots of us had. What happens when my wife and I both get in the car?

What's the answer? How do other Ford cars that auto apply driver profile (based on two keys) deal with this?

The vehicle can tell who’s phone approached from the driver’s side and will load that profile. And you can easily switch profiles if needed.

To use the Ford connected charging station 48amps, what is the minimum circuit it will run safely on? I'm guessing 60 and not 50?
50 amps is just fine. I have installed two of them in my garage.

That's definitely not to code to run a 48A charger on a 50A circuit unless you are using 100% rated breakers. Most breakers are 80%.

Made to code and inspected by the county inspector specifically for EV charging.
Will find out soon though, pretty soon.

I thought the answer to this question was amazing from a tech perspective. Maybe it's just super geo-fencing, but still, the computations and processing power involved in just that calculation alone is more than what powered early space flight.
