Would it be possible to just install a NEMA 6-50 male pigtail on the back of the Ford charger and then plug it into an existing 6-50 outlet? I already have a 60 Amp 240V outlet on a dedicated circuit in my garage for my TIG welder, and it would be nice be able to just reuse that since I will never need the charger and welder at the same time.
You mean an adapter like this? https://smile.amazon.com/AC-WORKS-E...50+ADAPTER&qid=1602179800&s=automotive&sr=1-1

I can see a couple of issues. One is NEMA 14 is hot-hot-ground-neutral and NEMA 6 is hot-hot-ground. So you'd be missing the neutral which might be needed for some 120v features? No idea if this is the case. (Think dryer). Or you could get an EVSE that uses NEMA 6. I have a NEMA 6 Clipper Creek in my garage.

However this brings up the second issue, which is that you don't want to be plugging and unplugging these guys all the time. You could put in a second 6-50 outlet and a switch which sends the power to one outlet or the other. If you're wondering, you could install a second NEMA 6 outlet and just remember to unplug the vehicle when you were using the welder, but this would be potentially dangerous and definitely not recommended!

I was thinking wiring something like this (only with a 6-50 plug) to the back of the charger, then just plugging it into the wall.

The installation instructions for the Ford connected charger posted earlier in this thread say that a 3 wire installation without the neutral is an acceptable option, so I don't think there is an issue with the 6-50 outlet for the charger.

I agree that I would probably need a special outlet designed to have plugs removed more than a few times and not use a standard "plug in once and never touch it" household appliance outlet. Also, I only use the welder a few times a year, so it's not like it would even be unplugged more than a few times a year anyway.

Does anyone know how the Ford Connected Charger is attached to the wall? Does it mount over a standard electrical box? I'm trying to determine how big a hole I'll need to cut out of the wall.

All the pictures we've seen indicate it mounts over the box. It may have to be a recessed box, however.

I ordered the Ford Connected Charger, but my order confirmation states it will not arrive until January 4, 2021. After last's nights webinar, I am wondering if I need it at all and if I should save the $799. Darren Palmer stated that the included charger would be all that most would need. Aside from the charge rate, I'm still not clear on the benefits. Will we still be able to program charge times and rates with the included charger via the car or the Ford Pass app?

The Siemens one is 30 amps. That's slower than the included mobile charger.

I'd recommend buying Grizzl E (40 amps, $399-439 depending on cable length and cable type) or waiting for the price for a 2nd Ford mobile charger (32 amps). Alternatively, buy neither and keep your mobile charger in the garage.
Thanks for the tip!!

The real questions you need to ask yourself are:
1) Regular use: How many miles do I normally drive in a day or week? How long will it take to recharge from that with each charger? Can I recharge enough in one night?
2) Irregular use: How often might I need to charge from a really low battery quickly to accommodate a trip? How often might I need to come back from a long drive and how long would I have to recharge? Can I accomplish that with charger X?
3) DCFC: For irregular applications above, if my home charger won't do the job quickly enough, do I have a high-speed DCFC I can use instead?
4) How much will it cost to purchase and to install charger x? Do I have 120 or 240v available where I need to connect the charger? How many amps will it handle? Do I need to hire an electrician to install heavier service?

These are personal use cases and are quite different from someone with a 100 mile commute and weekly 300 mile trips to a second home vs a retiree or person working from home with daily use less than 20 miles.

Great food for thought and very helpful. Thanks Mark!

This may sound odd, but what if the car arrives before the charger? I'd sure like to get the charger early enough to be able to have it installed.

I was able to order for $639.20, less the $20 promo for registering at FordParts.com. Found the price at Mac Haik Ford near Houston.

Do you have an outlet near where the car will be parked? If so, use the mobile charger. Also check to see where the nearest DCFC installations are in case you need them.

I'd probably want one that comes with a male and female end rather than a male and a pigtail. Getting the slightly longer one is actually a good thing since the short cable that comes with the EVSE can make placement difficult.

Nice that the four to three prongs is not an issue.

On the plugging and unplugging, they make the outlets tight so it's a manly task to unplug them. That's why even for a few times a year I'd have two outlets and a switch. But you could do that later if you decide you're not man enough for the unplugging. LOL

Seems like you are all set.
