The Escape recall is going to hurt Ford's pocket book big time. They had to call back all 20k cars, give vouchers for gas and other indemnities to clients who took possesion, they had to stop production of the car and now because they are late with production they will have to pool with other manufacturers for Emissions credits. I am sure Ford is really looking forward to hearing some good news with the Mach-E release.

I'm on the waiting list, but I may consider just picking up the non-plug-in Hybrid. It's a little cheaper and it has AWD option.

For the people who already took possesion of the car I guess they have to rent? I doubt Ford has 20k gasoline escapes as loaners. Its the only thing not mentioned

Ford had plans to begin series production of the Escape PHEV in the spring, however, later it pushed that back to summer, mostly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, people will have to wait even longer for the new plug-in-hybrid electric SUV. This is all a precaution after the European Ford Kuga, which shares its engine and battery with the Escape PHEV, has become a fire hazard. Ford's Mike Levine commented:

“We’re moving production to next year while we investigate what happened to the Kuga in Europe. None have been sold in the U.S.”

You might get the hybrid for cheap. Theyre not selling well due to covid and i think many were waiting for the PHEV

They are told to not charge the car and drive them in "EV Auto" mode. Which is why they're being paid for the extra gasoline they need to buy as a result.

The settlement/recalls/buybacks related to the fiesta and focus would dwarf this.

LOL recalling 20k cars is nothing. Companies do it all the time (not too long ago there was a recall of 100's of thousands of cars).

Heck here is a 600k recall:
It will all be fine, don't worry...the have billions in cash.

It's not about the cash as it is about the perceived image. Stopping production thar was already late and having to buy crefits ftom other companies like Tesla just adds fuel to the Tesla famboyism

I read at another web report that the over heating cause was located at the charging module which is physically attached to the top of the battery pack, That is why Ford recommends no external charging, just regenerative from the motors. And the fires were all smoke and no flames. Maybe the newer fire reports had flames.

I know this also affects the Lincoln Corsair PHEV which is the relabeled Escape. I wanted my wile to look at one to replace her 2009 Chevy Equinox, since GM never decide to make a hybrid Equinox.

Really, a 50 miles PHEV with fast charging? why.. I mean that blows my mind that it would be desirable... You want to drive 50 miles, juice the battery with a high current, then drive another 50... AND you want a hybrid just in case you need to drive 51 miles between fast chargers...

I'm trying to picture a realistic scenario where DCFC would be useful in a PHEV.

you also forgot the financial impact of halting production and pushing it to next year. This also causes a delay in deliveries of cars
