I had a 30-45 minute test drive today in the GV60 Performance. I had lots of dealer issues, but I'll keep this focused on the car.

Things I really really loved:
  • Cooled seats. They were amazing. The dealer still had plastic on everything (not sure why, as this is their demo car). The seats didn't seem to cool down until I started driving. Once they got going, they were so comfy.
  • Physical controls for the climate, radio, and on screen menus. I can't tell you how much I love having the lever for the temp control. Oh, and physical controls for heated/cooled seats.
  • #1 my favorite thing is the shifter. The return to center shifter is the best!! Going right is always drive. Going left is always revers. Park is always a button press. My Mach E has the standard ford rotary dial shifter. To go from drive to reverse or reverse to drive, you have to remember where you are and how many clicks to get to your target position. It's terrible for parking or three point turns.
  • #2 might be the volume and tuning scroll wheels with the textured metal surface.
  • I didn't test it, but the 800V DCFC charging is probably my main attracting in getting me to switch from my Mach E. 18 minutes for 10-80% or something? Amazing.
  • I think it has a heat pump??
  • I didn't test it, but the facial id for the door and the fingerprint id for starting the car.
  • The key fob has the buttons on the side so they won't get accidentally pressed — I set off my Mach E's alarm at least weekly and that's being careful (and the fob is significantly smaller)
Down sides:
  • My biggest issue was that it would reset one-pedal driving every time I parked the car or turned it off. Is there a way to make that stick?
  • I much prefer the Mach E external door buttons and the internal door handles.
  • Limited range (230 vs 270 on my Mach E). But much faster DCFC.
  • No door combo to get in or password to start the car.
  • Does it have phone-as-a-key?
  • Teeny tiny frunk
Open questions
  • I didn't have enough time to fiddle with the steering wheel controls.
  • How is the highway assist (lane centering and dynamic cruise control)? I tested it briefly and it seemed to take corners more smoothly than my Mach E.
  • Biggest question/concern...if I need dealer service, I know for Ford I have to go to an EV-certified Ford Dealer (that's almost all Ford dealers). The Genesis GV60 is only sold in 5 states right now and this dealer is 2.5 hours from home. Can I bring it to a local Kia or Hyndai dealer? It's all the same parts, except for interior finishes, right?

Great summary OP! Am curious about the servicing too since it's only sold in 5 states presently.

While the faster charging sounds cool, are there charging stations that will allow you to take advantage of that? And is that only under ideal conditions? I fear there’s a lot of advertising “fine print” that goes along with it.

-It does have a heat pump. For us that wasn’t a big deal since we live in LA.
-When you set your profile it will keep one foot pedal on. However, even if it does reset it’s not that hard to turn it back on. You just have to hold the left paddle and it’ll take you back there.
-It doesn’t have a phone as a key like the Mach E. The facial recognition does allow you to open the door and then your fingerprint allows you to turn on the car. So far this has been a little bit more reliable than phone as a key in my MME. This also alleviates the need for a door combo and password to start the car. You can program two profiles that will store the biometric information.
-We have the advanced model right now and so far we’re averaging between 260-270 miles.
-I haven’t used the lane assist too much, but I would agree with your assessment in the times I’ve used it. It seems a little smoother overall
-For service we can take it to any Genesis dealership nationwide. This may be inconvenient for some since they are limited. Even for us the closest one is about 25 miles away.
-For charging, we recently tried to use a 350 kw chargers, but the two stations we stopped at the 350 kw chargers were down. This may be the biggest issue is finding one that works. We used a 150 kw charger and to our surprise the car was pulling 170-180 kw up to 80% and dropped to 150-160 kw once it hit 80%. Hopefully that’s consistent.
-While the trunk is smaller it wasn’t as small as we thought it would be. It works for my family as we were able to load up a stroller, folded pack n play, portable high chair, crib mattress, and a few other items without blocking the rear window.

So your review has nothing about performance? How did it drive? It should be at least as fast as a Mach E GT, and probably faster than that, at speed.

The GV60 Performance has a boost button that gives you max power of 483 hp for 10 seconds. I tried it and I liked it.

I was on busy roads In Connecticut, so I didn’t really get to test it’s performance.

It’s faster than my ER AWD

Sounds pretty nice. I would have considered the GV60, if it had been available a year ago.

How long would it take to get one, if you decided to buy it?

I am always happy to see more EVs offered, but being more expensive than the Mach E and much more Tesla-like (ie: ugly like a used bar iof soap) it would have to offer something pretty special to get me to switch.

The EV6 and Ioniq5 are sold everywhere as far as I know. They are in Massachusetts at least.
EV6 yes... launched in all states.

Ioniq 5 launch was 15-25 states. May have expanded but was not a 50-state launch for some reason. Also, you can't buy a Kona EV in most states in the US. Hyundai restricted sales to a handful of (ZEV?) states.

Genesis is starting with 6(?) states then opening up later. My dealer told me end of summer I could place an order. I'd like a test drive first :)
