That subscription price is stupid. I mean I guess you break even after well under a full charge from empty for a mach e, but still. I thought EA's $4 monthly pass was a stupid price ("paid for" when you charge 40 kWh worth). It'd only ever be a thing if I could turn it on/off on a per month basis, and to be honest, just auto-turn-it-on when I pass that fee's savings in a single charge session (or track it centrally and turn it on when I pass it over multiple sessions... without autorenew in either case).

If you live in an apartment without access to an L2 plug, then you could be using the supercharger several times a month. If your needs exceed 76kwh per month (about 450 km) to make the subscription worthwhile.

The nearby mall has a tesla station with some free tesla L2 chargers I've used (often ICEd.) Not exactly sink eye, but some odd looks that's for sure.

I have been using Tesla L2 destination chargers at various locations with my handy TeslaTap and it's great. Too bad the Tap won't work with the Superchargers. So unless they equip them with a converter, we'll be looking to buy SuperchargerTaps!

The plan is to add CCS1 cables to the superchargers. So you will not need an adapter.
The question is "How many stalls will have double cables?"
It's too bad they are not planning to convert North America Tesla to CCS as they did in Europe.

Tesla still might convert existing chargers to dual use. However, Tesla is in the process of engineering a better charger in order to meet all of the guidelines for federal funding... including the following

Chargers must be designed to securely switch Charging Network Providers without any changes to hardware.

76 (b) Charging-Network-to-Charging-Network Communication. A Charging Network must be capable of communicating with other Charging Networks to enable an EV driver to use a single credential to charge at Charging Stations that are a part of multiple Charging Networks.

(c) Charging-Network-to-Grid Communication. Charging Networks must be capable of secure communication with electric utilities, other energy providers, or local energy management systems.

Ioniq 5 and EV6 can charge at 400Vs.

I don't see the cost benefit of Tesla retrofitting existing chargers because of the high cost and low utilization. Many CCS locations out of CA are barely used so why spent $50K upgrading a Tesla SC for a two dozen new people a week?

I also don't see CCS + Tesla adapter being possible. CCS is PowerLine communication system and Tesla is CAN-bus based. They could build a complex adapter like they did with Tesla/CHAdeMO but I doubt people would be interested in a $800+ charging adapter.

The front page of a report also leaked from Teslathat showed the company is planning to develop a Supercharger Charge Post that has Dual Cables that are suitable for both V3 and V4 charging speeds and could also include a potential CCS charging port for third-party automakers to use.

Now, Tesla has discussed opening Superchargers to third-party companies for several years, and it’s already started in the form of a Pilot Program in Europe. The same type of program could be launched in the United States later this year, and it likely will start with the V4 Supercharger.
