I didn't read the whole thread, so excuse me if this has already been answered. But I took it to mean that basic parking assist (like automatic angle and parallel parking) will come standard, but the 2.0 (which would be like Summon on Tesla or Smart Park on Hyundai) would be the upgraded version that comes out as an OTA update.

I'm hoping we will also get the full summon package where our car will come pick us up whether that's at the curb in a parking lot or just pulling itself out if we park in a puddle.
This OTA update is handsfree driving - the normal safety features are covered under Copilot 360 including lane centering I think. But these features require drivers to still be holding the steering wheel. The lane centering currently available in cars is just a slight nudge at best if it senses deviation from lane demarcations.

I am thinking the handsfree features will be more advanced but the low cost makes me think that perhaps they are just small incremental features and not perhaps autonomous driving capability

In everyone's excitement (and apparently much difficulty of parsing the meaning) with today's press release, it looks like we all failed to extrapolate important news from the attached image.

Surely there is some nugget to be gleaned here? 300 mile range at 100%! While 60 mph! On what might very well be a SR AWD trim! (Prove it to me that it's not!)

I'm thinking this is some sort of teaser of an upcoming Knight Rider mode. To achieve this speed at 100% SoC, on an approved highway while hands (and maybe even person!) free, this car had to have rolled out of a freight truck.

Equipped with SYNC 4A w/ Enhanced Voice Recognition, Active Drive Assist, and always-on cellular connectivity, I have high confidence in its ability to save Michael Long's ass from whatever predicament he's gotten himself into this time.

Wow, that is a lot better than I thought it would be. Let's hope the post 3-year period is just as reasonable
Reasonable in both price and support. If your subscription fee just gets you access to the same service, that's only an OK deal at best. If it pays for updates and additional features then it's a great deal. Time will tell.

I'm very happy with the pricing and would have no problem with it ending up being $200/year. Take the money and pour it into development and mapping additional areas. If you want it, subscribe, if not....
$600 = activation + 3 year subscription

So I expect the annual subscription to be less than $200 after 3 years. But yeah, even if it ends up being $200 a year, I'd be totally happy to pay for it. Keeping the maps up-to-date costs Ford real money.

The nice thing would be to have a pre agreement the day you sign the contract , let's say a 2 years payment fee added to your Ford Credit either finance option or leasing, after you have had a 30 days trial period and that you agree to update and pay the extra monthly fee. So you would pay over a 2 year period just like you are able to do with your cell phone, and after that 2 year period you are going back paying the original monthly agreement .

It would probably work out costing me $100 every time I used, since Iā€™d very rarely cover long distances here in the UK. However I can see this being a massive hit, especially with long commuters. Perfectly priced. Well done Ford.

Google just found for me the following: The US Interstate Highway system is 46,876 miles. If we assume they start out with all of the Interstates, then that means this will cover an additional 50,000+ miles of non-interstate roads from the start. That's a pretty extensive system and covers lots of the long, monotonous drives many of us take.

(Edited for tone)

It could be that a mile's worth of six lane divided highway counts as six miles of roadway. I think from a marketing point of view, that's how one would prefer to present these numbers.

From a Forbes article:
ā€œTo their credit, Ford is acknowledging up front that customers will have to pay for a FordPass Connect subscription to use ADA after three years. Like GM, Ford needs the connectivity to supply map and software updates. Ford isnā€™t announcing a price at this time, but promises it will be competitive which likely means that it will be the same $25 per month.ā€

Why canā€™t they use my phone? $300 a year is too much. Tesla charges only $10 for connectivity.

Nice, this is really cool. Whatā€™s the main difference from the free adaptive cruise control that the premiums (or all MMEs?) already get, the ability for the vehicle to steer for itself on mapped highways?
