Is no one else starting to get nervous about the ranges we keep hearing reported? @jdmrc93 says 230-240mi, @ChasingCoral shows 240mi, several of the roadshow units are 240-250mi, Instagram and other sneak shots top out at ~250mi but most commonly less.

Is a real-world range, during warm weather, of ~240mi not concerning to anyone?? That’s not even remotely competitive, and while these have been test cars, the numbers have been very consistent and I see no reason for them to be inaccurate with that much reproducibility. 2.3mi/Kwh is pretty paltry compared to the Model Y, especially after last week’s range increase. Even the 21” Performance Y gets more than 260mi, and has a heat pump for more consistent weather-related range.

I love the car as much as anyone else, but at what point do we raise a red flag that EPA hasn’t been released with Barely a month til purchases start, No reviews, and a number of consistent sightings of ~240mi real-world. For <50mi more than a $17k Chevy Bolt, I don’t know how I can justify a +$50k purchase as a primary vehicle, especially in a northern state.

The best we’ve seen is a 7hr trip in Norway that squeezed 300mi with a mind-numbingly slow speed of 48mph. Starting to think about getting cold feet on my preorder.

If real world for AWD ER is less than 270 miles I'll probably think twice about buying. Model Y is over 300 (I think it's 316). I'd find it hard to believe Ford would not make sure it got at least the 270 (real world) - and was (am still) hoping they'll surprise with near 300.

Not worried in the slightest. The odds they won't hit at least the EPA estimated range is fairly low. These are all preproduction models. They get crushed when this all over and turned into beer and chopped tomato cans, nobody is babying them or even driving them in a "normal" manner. Unbridled and a lead foot. And everything that draws down the power is on. Including at the Mach-E Tour event.

Your time to worry is in a few weeks if the official EPA and WLTP range results miss their mark on the low side.

Nobody will be getting 270 miles of real-world range until May. Maybe April if you live in the south.

I think the Y goes anywhere from 260-275mi real-world despite their EPA listing. There’s been a number of YouTube videos on this by Alex on Autos, Ben Sullins and similar.
But if the Mach-E can’t compete with all that extra battery, then sheesh.

Thanks...see you in a couple of weeks (I also registered at Apple Ford the next day at 1:00 if I want more time with the car than I can manage at Koons on the 11th).
Me too!

Still though, even if they hit that EPA target, that was announced when the Model Y was still targeting 270mi too. Now it’s 320+ before the Mach-E is even released.

Don't look at other cars, look at what you need in your specific situation...

i wasnt sure which space the purse was for but the space under the armrest didnt seem very big. Any woman with a medium to large size bag is going to have trouble getting their bag to fit. I figured the space under the phones would be safer from people looking into the car/hidden from view but didnt seem that sizeable a space either.
From my wife’s perspective it was
  1. Armrest up
  2. Purse down
  3. Done

That’s why she was so happy the armrest stays up on its own. An armrest that slides back would have been even better.

I do long road trips constantly, so that just makes it worse. Plus why would I pay the same for something with less value in the same segment.

Real world range between the two will be similar. Hard to say which will be higher.

Thanks for the "take apart" review! Good stuff.

When you looked at the wipers, where is the washer fluid spouts? Under the hood or on the arms?
I don’t try them to make sure but fairly certain they are under the hood. I think they are those structures you see near the base of the wiper blades here.

I’m not sure these road show vehicles represent real world ranges any more than your first week with the car will.
