Looks like Tesla is rejoining the L2 market with their home charger. The connector has been swapped for a J1772, and is priced less than most of the other premium connected chargers at $550, which is still $150 more than what they sell the Tesla version at. People who have the Tesla version love it (really no choice if you want to charge your Tesla at home), but seems solidly built, and has been on the market for a while.
Maybe if he makes enough money off this he can keep providing Starlink satellite service to Ukraine.

After a frustrating 6-months using the OEM charger I bought a Grizzle-E Charger. Using the same power source, it charges faster and without issues. It cost me in the low 400's. Much more heavy duty than OEM and made in North America (Canada).

Is this the J plug Gen 3? Would enjoy hearing about your results with it. I have been trying to find out what the management/monitoring screens look like as well, but haven’t found much past the setup/config. Or can this work with the Tesla app for our cars? Anything you could post up would be great.

Sure is! Should have it installed within the next 2 weeks and can post a follow-up. I don't believe there is much management or monitoring with the Gen 3s. It's a dumb EVSE that's connected to wifi only for firmware updates and advanced support. Definitely cannot be controlled via the Tesla app, but Tesla did add this new shortcut to their home screen.

Thanks for the info. Well if you find any hidden features so let us know. It’s a great price point for a 48A charger, not to mention these I. Previous form are widely used and should be very reliable.

Looks like they have started installing these in the wild already. Pretty cool. Well a move in the right direction.

Just wish I had a time machine as Tesla sold a 40a J plug wall connector for $415 late last year. They were either a huge hit or was priced incorrectly as Tesla removed it from their shop within 2 weeks.

I also considered the Grizzle-e, Autel, Juice Box and Charge point home flex, but ultimately decided on Tesla's version as I didn't need a "smart" EVSE and Tesla has the thinnest and most flexible cable. The power share feature is also pretty neat.

True about the last model. But I want a 48A if I’m going to upgrade from the base Mobil Ford unit. I was set on a JB 48A, until I learned of this Tesla J plug model. Now the JB looks bulky and think the side plug mount will work much better for me. I do like features and the JB does have an app. They both can share a circuit as well.

This sounds like the Gen 2. Think many Tesla folks were waiting for features it never delivered and it was just eventually replaced with this Gen 3.
Does it means it is a smart EVSE?

Only differences are the "new" one is black and has a higher output (48a vs 40a).
Are you hardwiring it or will you get a plug for it. Will be interesting to see how this handles the circuit amp setting. Chargepoint has changed how it handles selecting the circuit amp rating, that is what I bought, as I purchased it 3 weeks before this announcement.
