It's OK for right hand drive cars ;) Seriously though it should be adapted for left hand drive and right hand drive.
Don’t worry I’m sure on right hand drive cars the buttons will be moved to the left.

I don't mind the size of the icons but for the love of god, please put them on the left side of the screen, closer to the driver. One would think that this is simple, common sense ergonomic design principles :(
Honestly, that's not one of the issues I take with the design, they aren't buttons you are going to hit while driving anyways so being on the other side isn't a big deal.

Feel like I'm missing something here... Why is everyone so fixed about the camera button? I've never used it

When you're pulling into a spot, the motion detectors don't always go off, so what happens is you end up pulling into the spot incorrectly. You're then forced to go into reverse, which does turn the cameras on, and readjust. Could easily all be done at once if you were able to push a camera button and align in the spot perfectly on the first attempt. It also helps in other situations too.

I have a narrow driveway with a low stone wall either side so the overhead camera view is invaluable for me so I don't hit anything reversing out and driving in. I have to access it at an angle from the narrow road. In fact I can't have a car any wider due to the angles involved. The 360 degree view and being slightly narrower than a Model Y was my main clincher for not going Tesla.

Note to Ford: PLEASE don't make any future Mach E versions or revisions any wider. Having a button for the camera on the main screen would be soooo much better.

Sorry but I think you missed my point, but thanks for your condescention.

I was communicating not that a physical knob isn't better than a laggy on-screen slider (it is!) but that Ford has designed multiple touch areas in different places with different mental maps that will randomly change the modality of that physical knob.

It's like if I told you that, in your house, you had one knob stuck to your wall. Want to change how hot your Thanksgiving turkey is cooking? Well, tap on the temp button on your oven, then walk over to the wall and turn that dial. Want to change your house's furnace temperature? Well go to your thermostat, tap that, then walk over to the wall with that same dial on it and turn it. Want to change a light dimmer? okay, well hit that light switch, then go over to that same dial.

This is the Ford UI expressed in your house.

I've only seen the videos, hopefully this may not be as mentally taxing as I think it could turn out to be.

Hope you now understand my criticism of this as someone who's worked in the auto infotainment / driver distraction space in the past, and that you don't decide to leave me another turkey of a reponse.
In my car, I never have to leave my seat.

I get the point you're trying to make but not the best analogy IMO. Even on my oven I have knobs for the stove, and different buttons for mode, temp adjustment and to start/stop.

I don't think it's going to be that difficult to figure out, and I don't think Ford just randomly chose this without some actual UX/UI work.

I have not watched the video but perhaps it was produced using a right hand drive car or standalone APIM configured as though it were right hand drive.

Just happened to notice that Ford updated one of the photos on their site:

Looks like they might be starting to aggressively add apps.

Actually, this doesn't surprise me at all, I have a feeling that while the Sync 4A system might not be upgraded to the same Android Automotive system that new cars will be running, it's going to look the same and start integrating Android apps. Which is something fully supported via QNX running portions of Android Automotive in a container.

They changed the renders for it when they swapped the site over for 2023 MY, as the cars appear to be shipping with the update, just hoping they don't make us wait forever to get it.

Put the buttons only used when the car is stopped & in park in the vital limited space nearest the driver?

I'd like to be able to turn the screen off. Full black (no backlight dim gray but not actually off) for country road night driving.

The screen does have a no distraction mode, not fully black like you want but hides all the ui behind a really basic screen. I think you just hold the knob button down to activate it.

Thanks. Yeah I've used that. But I'd love to have it completely dark, with backlight off. One less distraction and passengers can see the stars without the blinding reflection on the glass roof.

Got it thank you for replying.
