The problem is when we take away one way of making the energy we need to find a way for that area to still produce work and wages for those people. If not then we have still abandoned the people.

The coal miners paid the price for years and now those people are not needed no more and we just wash our hands of them. I do find that sad.
This is why, for example, there are programs in place to retrain miners to switch from coal mining to renewable energy. This is especially valuable as many of the major coal areas are in mountain ridges that are ideal locations for wind turbines. Several companies have also started developing "reclaimed" lands from strip mining or mountaintop removal into solar farms. We hold shares in a solar farm built on a retired municipal landfill.

As for job training:

I have been saying for years that the land around and in between our freeways, (plus under powerlines, lol) if used for solar by our local government, could make a huge dent in the power needs of this country.

I've never done the math before, but an average of 45 yards wide and a total 10,000 miles long (remember there are over 100,000 miles of divided highway for our ACC), would be like putting solar on 52,800,000 homes (15 sq yards per home).

The cost on that is exorbitant and only 67% of people own their home. Landlords don't have any financial reason to add solar because it is an upfront cost to them without any income plus there are ongoing costs of repairs and maintenance.

That's why we should do both.

This is insane. I hardly said anything related to political matters, and my post gets deleted. I specifically said I didn’t want to get political. Yet @LYTMCQ can spew political theories all day — and nothing. I guess if you don’t share the same views, you get censored. This site will be like Twitter soon. Craziness.

Maybe there's a systematic censor, and you can't use the "P" word?

Very strange that a post disavowing politics would be deleted as politics.
Or maybe it's only posts someone reports. Might need to use that button. Although I've already blocked the main offender. Most everyone else is fine.

I think more that one post was removed. At one point on my page I saw 11 pages of posts, but now it is down to 10 and that includes the addition of several posted this morning.
