In reviewing the $45 Owner's Documents available from Helm, I keep coming across minor things of which I hadn't previously been aware, so I am starting this separate thread to consolidate any observations gleaned from the Helm provided Ford documents:

The Helm, Inc "Owners manual" kit only includes a 30 page Quick Reference Guide, an 85 page supplemental Owner's Guide, and the Tire Warranty guide. The Helm documents are Ford documents that I expect will be included with the vehicle. Since there is no typical 400+ page owner's manual with the Helm portfolio, I don't believe it is worth $45. I am guessing that, given the many options on the center display, there may not be a separate printed full owners manual - Probably just an online pdf copy and the electronic manual on the center display.

Other than what's listed below, most of the Helm\Ford documents give basic descriptions of already painfully obvious info.

A very few items:

The battery connections under the hatches on the front fender are only for opening the hood. You still jump the battery using battery to battery connections (as speculated)

There is a command "OK Ford I'm cold" and it warms the cabin. Whoopee

If you have auto heated seats, the heated seats switch on to match your climate control settings.

The Quick Reference Guide does describe rain-sensing auto wipers.

According to the Quick Reference Guide you can release the rear liftgate from outside the car without your phone or key by using the Keyless Entry System keypad on the driver's side window pillar using your entry code plus 5-6 within five seconds

(A weird one) You can open the frunk from the touchscreen but it comes with this note: "NOTE: This function is not available on vehicles with a divided front luggage compartment. Vehicle system updates could change the functionality"

In addition to the heated rear windscreen there is something called " The heated rear wiper park" I'm guessing it heats the wiper arms assembly.

The one page Under Hood Overview shows only 5 items. - The battery coolant reservoir, brake fluid reservoir, under hood fuse box, Windshield washer fluid reservoir, and something called the Motor electronic coolant reservoir. Some of these components are underneath the compartment cover.

There is no maintenance schedule info.

Other than that just a bunch of painfully obvious info like headrest adjusting, child seats installation, airbag info and paragraph after paragraph of the obligatory and ridiculously obvious Warnings and Cautions.

Thanks. Glad to save the $45!

A separate reservoir for MES is an indication the battery cooling loop is separate from the Motor-Electronic-Systems loop. I wasnt expecting that to be the case. Interesting.....

Is that good or bad?

I would say whichever method they chose is good because Ford's engineers are way smarter than I am.
If there are only two coolant reservoirs then the cabin heating system must share the coolant with one of those systems.

Very curious to see how the thermal management systems works on this car. The Focus Electric had a single reservoir that supplies all three systems. If Ford added a second reservoir then they did it for a good reason because they wouldn't add extra cost and weight unnecessarily.

I think the battery uses a water-based glycol mixture and the motor uses a cooling and lubrication solution. You can see more information on the motor here: BorgWarner Enables High Performance, Eco-friendly Driving with Latest Integrated Drive Module for Ford Mustang Mach-E

Hope the auto windcreen wiper is better than my present cars (I hate it with a passion).

I hope it works well also, it's something I love on my current car (since it works very well).

I'm not sure why you'd go through all of that to open the lift gate, when you can just open it by moving your foot underneath it. Strange.

For times when you don’t have your key fob.

Unless your trim doesn't have the kick to open lift gate (re Select and CA Route 1 models).

Well, that's a real bummer since the Helm description specifically says "Owner Manual". Reference guides and supplements are not the same thing, so Helm really shouldn't be calling it that.

Yeah, it kinda reads that way but the lubricant is cooled by the water-glycol coolant via a heat exchanger of some kind. The motor and rotating mass is lubricated with oil....usually something like transmission fluid. There is a sump where the oil collects and that sump is cooled by passages or heat transfer fins cast into the case. So the heat from the lubricating oil transfers through the aluminum case and into the coolant where it then is exchanged to air via the radiator. It is a pretty cool method and works well.

The motor and electronics generate a bit of heat so it would make sense to route that heat to the battery and/or passenger compartment when needed vs wasting it to the atmosphere but that requires plumbing and valves which isn't really an issue with a front wheel drive set up like the Focus Electric, Chevrolet Bolt, Nissan Leaf etc. The MME has the motor in the rear and electronics up front so that might complicate thing to the point where it isn't a value added risk/reward ratio to try and capture the heat from the MECS (Motor and Electronic Cooling System. The AWD version would have a motor up front so perhaps the plumbing would be simplified but from a production line and cost perspective it may not make sense.

What makes more sense to is have another heat exchanger between the two water-glycol systems. That could be fairly easy to do with minimal weight penalty. Just speculating though...

You would use it if you wanted to get something out of your locked car and you left your fob\phone in the office\house.

Out of curiosity, what is the benefit to getting these guides early? I can understand reading it if its leaked, but why spend $45 on it?
