One day, people will have to pay extra to their landlords to breathe the air in their apartments and some people will accept it and say it makes sense.

I think i only got about 40 or 60 years (max) left on this earth so hopefully I get the F outta here before it gets too bad.

Calling the landlord at 3am gasping for air, to which they reply "oh, yes, I cut off your air service since you're 5 days late on payment, it's in the lease you signed..."

And you'll STILL have people on forums justifying it like "well technically it's within the 6 walls owned by the landlord so it only makes sense that you'd pay a subscription to use their air"

sure it’s
Prior to this, the 360° camera wasn't a parking or reverse feature, it was lumped into the Blue Cruise subscription, so if you didn't activate or stay current with Blue Cruise, you lost 360° even if the hardware is already there and working. From my understanding, stitching cameras together to get a 360° view is NOT a cloud computing service, there's nothing about it that requires a data streaming or computing service. It's local to the car.

As for me, they gave me a $1900 activation fee + 3yr subscription (I didn't opt in to this), so idk if they'll let me start a 3yr Blue Cruise ONLY for just $600, but at the same time "activation" is bullshit because I currently have Blue Cruise on free trial, so it's activated and fully functional. What more can they "activate" if it's already fully installed and working for me? Sounds like a bullshit arbitrary charge to me.
considering my 2017 Nissan had just as good of a 360 camera and didn’t have any kind of internet connection, no, it’s not cloud based.

***Note: I have a 2023 Select model in which I did not pay the $1900 subscription to Blue Cruise and 360° Camera at time of purchase.***

I have bitched about this many times, unhappy that Ford went the paywall trend and hid the 360° Camera behind a subscription service. It's installed hardware, big F you to any manufacturer who hides things like heated seats behind a subscription service fee.

My subscription has not yet run out for both Blue Cruise and 360° Camera, but today, I was pleased to see that my "trial" for the cameras was permanently extended* !!!

Of course, there's an asterisk, but still... This is one huge step forward in morals and ethics.

This is nuts, I understand paying for Blue Cruise as it is a paid connected service that needs constant monitoring and upkeep. Camera, that is straight up BS, it is built into the car and requires nothing whatsoever from Ford for it to operate!

Do they though?

They still gladly charged the rest of us.

I’m still shocked Ford did this. That said, I hope the next email we get in a year or so will be how Bluecruise is free for the duration of the first owner.

I understand charging the 2nd person who buys the car to reactivate and update it. But if the first owner already paid once, I don’t think they should have to pay again after 3 years.

It doesn’t cost Ford to operate it?

Not exactly.
Software updates to keep it functional.
Warranty claims when it breaks.

Also- they just gave up any revenue they would have gotten from people who would have paid for it.

It’s nice of Ford to give it away for free, but this will cost Ford millions $$.

Only talking about the 360 camera just like on a bunch of other Ford vehicles, no costs whatsoever.

There is no cost to keep cameras activated. That's like saying backup cameras are a huge expense to auto manufacturers because they need software updates and warranty claims... I don't think a backup camera puts a dent in any warranty or software update budget for any manufacturer, ever. The 360° cameras are not much more, technologically speaking.

Never said it was a huge expense.

But warranty claims = not zero.

And the opportunity cost of people not paying $1900? Will be significant, especially for future sales.

I don’t think you and I agree on the definition of “no.” 🤔

We probably disagree on the meaning of splitting hairs also. 😂

Agreed 100%, if not Ford would go bankrupt maintaining all the 360 cameras on their vehicles.
