Went on road trip and got about half the range that I had expected. Does driving in Unbridled full time affect the range?

No.

What effects your range is temperature, speed, topography (i.e. going uphill or downhill), and how you drive. So, if you always punch it and drive 80mph, you will get awful range. If you drive 65 and set the cruise, you will get better range. Running the heat will zap your range.

Im in Florida so good temps and no hills but I was going 80-90 for 100 miles

No but Yes! It unleashes more speed. So long story short only if you drive it like you stole it!

If your driving style requires you to use brake a lot - your range goes down. I believe it is true for gasoline as well

Never break. Braking is fine though...

At least with non-assisted driving active (cruise control, Blue Cruise, etc), I believe it does, but the biggest variance between different driving modes would be with steady cruising in light traffic when rural driving or on the highway. It would make comparatively little difference with frequent speed changes for stop signs and traffic lights, moderate to heavy traffic, and/or a heavy right foot in general.

Since regen is not 100% efficient, you are wasting energy when alternating between accelerating and regen as opposed to coasting in the ”least regen” mode possible. Since Unbridle has more regen than Engage, which has more regen than Whisper, you are wasting electrons when you select a mode with more regen. And with One Pedal selected, the efficiency will be even worse in each of these modes.

Some claim they can feather the right pedal to achieve a neutral balance between using electrons and reclaiming them as a zero sum game, but I find that to be very difficult to achieve, and frankly too much work to keep constantly adjusting pressure on the right pedal, as opposed to light touches mixed with taking the foot off the right pedal and the occasional light braking.

These observations are only based on 1800 miles of driving in the one month that I’ve owned the car, but I have already done 8 round trips of 150 miles each on almost entirely rural and highway roads. I have achieved 3.5 mi/kwh in Whisper Mode at speeds up to 70 mph in 50 degree weather. However, when I have been in traffic where I have to frequently adjust my speed, I don’t think the mode would have made much difference with all the speeding up and slowing down. For frequent speed changes, it’s more of a personal preference as to manual braking, level of regen, and One Pedal driving styles.

Electric vehicles in particular use a ton of energy at very high speeds, though even with a gas car, if you pay attention, your MPG is going to be pretty bad at 90 mph.

Unlike gas cars, EVs are more efficient at city speeds.

Related question: I don’t see it feel any difference between the the engage and unbridled drive modes. Is that expected? I do use 1 pedal drive. And I honestly don’t think there is any difference in acceleration or braking between the two modes.

Above 65Mph you are using a lot of juice, do expect range to drop accordingly
